That was indeed a very nasty accident for Vale. I understand he has broken three bones in his right hand but was complaining more about the pain in his back.

I hope he makes a swift recovery. <thumbsup>

If Rossi doesn't race, and Pedrosa wins, it will be the first time that Rossi has finished lower than second in any World Championship since 1996 (which was his first?). A fairly impressive stat!

Do we have any updates as to Rossi's condition?

He did 8 laps of warm up this morning, so he's thinking about racing. He was way off the pace though. This would be the first race he's ever missed.

If he is still fit enough to get a few points to protect his 2nd place then it is probably worth him having a go I guess.

But then again he doesn't want to make the injury worse.

Sadly, Vale didn't finish the race because his bike broke.

However, I did enjoy the 125 race earlier in the day. Some excellent racing there! <thumbsup>

So it was his bike that broke and not him just not being able to manage? It's not bad to be able to ride a bike with a broken hand.

Just read his comments on Autosport. He seems to be a bit big-headed, but I guess he has a point. If Yamaha aren't going to give him a better machine, he will just find some other team that will.

You've really got to feel sorry for him. The poor bloke's had a crap season by his standards due to indifferent tyres and a sub-standard bike, yet still manages to hold down second place at the end of the season. Whereupon, he breaks his hand (probably his fault, but I haven't seen the accident so I don't really know) requiring a single point to secure his second place and maintain 12 consecutive second place championship finishes or higher. The only way he can lose is for his rival to win, and him to score nothing. After somehow managing to get into the points with three broken bones in his right hand, the bloody bike blows up, and said rival also wins.

Ever feel like it's not your week??

No, it wasn't his fault. The bike juddered a bit and threw him off. It looked like he got his hand caught up in the bike as it landed. For a brief moment I really thought the bike had landed on him :(

Ah, but is judder not possibly a fault/oversight in the setup rather than a problem with the equipment?

Oh, and just to add, it's relatively uncommon to get a bike land on you unless it decides to roll down the track.. usually after a loss of control the rider gets chucked all over the place as the bike flips/highsides/lowsides/whatever. I've had several partings of company with a couple of my bikes, and I've always been spat off and ended up a short distance from the errant machine. Luckily, the fastest spill has been about 30mph, meaning the only real damage to myself had been a bruised knee and deflated wallet/ego....

Yes I know that Norbs.

Unfortunately, the coverage missed the major part of the incident so all this is pure conjecture on my part. Also, the camera angles may have been deceptive.

But the bike looked like it was only fit for a skip after the accident. It did decide to roll and bounce, which is why I initially thought it had landed on him. It certainly looked as though it came down very close.
