Welcome to the live race thread for the penultimate round of the championship in Sepang.

In the 125 race earlier, Gabor Talmacsi took victory to bring himself closer to the championship, and in the 250 race Hiroshi Aoyama took the win for Red Bull KTM, but the main headline will be Jorge Lorenzo taking his second consecutive title

Dani Pedrosa will be starting from pole, but with Casey Stoner starting on the front row and being fastest in the morning warm-up he is highly expected to take win number 10 of the season

It's a good day in Sepang today with scorching temperatures. Added to the new abrasive surface and we could see a very challenging race for all the riders

They are away and Stoner takes the lead. Pedrosa drops to second De Puniet third and Melandri holds fourth

The front three are starting to pull away, while Rossi is really struggling to come through the field

Good action at the end of the first lap. Pedrosa made a move down the inside of Stoner but ran wide at the final corner, allowing Stoner back through

Rossi starting to make up positions now

West gets penalised for a jump start

Marco Melandri sets the fastest lap - 2:02.9. It is 8 tenths slower than the outright lap record

The positions are

Stoner
Pedrosa
De Puniet
Melandri
West
Rossi

With West still to take his penalty for jumping the start

Rossi has past West at turn 4 to take fifth. Very aggressive pass but Rossi has nothing to lose

Pedrosa looks faster down the straights than Stoner, but the Aussie looks stronger on the brakes

Things starting to settle down now. Stoner still leads with a comfortable gap back to Pedrosa

My mistake - Stoner leads from Melandri. Now can the Italian make a challenge on Stoner

A gap of 3.2secs between De Puniet in fourth and Rossi in fifth.

Hayden goes off-track while fighting for seventh. He has lost a few places. Just looked like desperation trying to gain a place and he is sure to be frustrated with himself after that

Rossi now 2.8secs behind De Puniet. Good ride so far from De Puniet to keep up with the leading 3 bikes
