Autosport.com - Carroll to race for Team Ireland Team Ireland have announced that Adam Carroll will race for them for the remainder of the A1GP season. The GP2 race winner had been linked to the team since he tested for them at Silverstone in August, but he was unable to race in the season opener at Zandvoort due to a clash with the GP2 finale. "At the end of the day, I want to drive as much as I can," Carroll told autosport.com at the pre-season test. "It doesn't really matter what you are doing, but if you are winning then it is good for you." The Ulsterman added in a release on Monday: "My aim is simply to win races and challenge for championships. In A1GP I have the additional motivation of representing Ireland. Good choice. He will improve the team as he has already shown in GP2 what he is capable of |

It can't do any harm for Carroll to race in A1 whilst all the other motorsports take their winter break and I am sure he will enjoy it and be right up there so good luck to him. However winning in A1 won't push closer towards F1 as the A1 cars don't prepare drivers for F1 and the driver talent in A1 is still quite weak to be as kind as I can. He needs to be in the top 2 or 3 the GP2 standings next year to stand the chance of a F1 drive. I do quite like the guy though, he hasn't always had easy times and I think he has the talent to make it. |

You're right DC19, none of the stand-out drivers from A1GP have made it in F1 yet, although Hulkenberg could be there in a few years (right, John? ;)). However more track time for Adam can't be a bad thing considering how difficult he has found it to get sponsorship so far in his career. |
