no bogus reports, I just wanted folks' opinions on this young guy. As he is from the same area on Germany in which I live, there is media attention on him here.

He'd be a cheaper option from many other drivers, he's German so would be a good choice for Mercedes and he's shown he can race well.

Do you think he might be considered if Alonso was to move on?

I don't think Vettel is ready for a drive in a bigger team yet.

He hasn't yet had a great race in the dry, he has only shone in the wet where it is more even.

Remember that in the dry Liuzzi has been beating Vettel and there are certainly no thoughts of Liuzzi getting the mclaren drive.

Maybe in a year or two he will be ready for a big drive but not at this moment.

I'm with DC on this one. He is showing great talent but is still a little rough around the edges. I think after a year or two racing full-time he will be ready to race at the top. Maybe even a return to BMW, Red Bull should they come good or as you say a McLaren, where Mercedes would love to have a German racing for them

To be honest until the last race i didnt really rate him but even despite another set back yesterday he still had the mental strength to put together a stunning race. Well done to Liuzzi as well who drove a solid race and passed Webber and Heidfeld in the early stages.

Nope. He's 20, nowhere near ready IMO. Give him a couple of seasons at STR.

Vettel has to make sure he beats Bourdais by a decent margin next year.

Then we will know if he is special or just a standard driver.

In the last 2 races he has been mightily impressive (I think even in the dry he and Liuzzi would have been in the hunt for points) but as we saw with say Rosberg last season, 2 or 3 races do not mean the driver is brilliant.

Vettel in a McLaren? Maybe in a couple of years. Right now he has lots to learn, and ample time in which to do it - after all, he's only 20.

Yes please.

I just like his enthusiasm and the fact he seems to be loving every second, a massive contrast to the glum looking podium.

I think he'd need time to get used to the car and it would depend if he really got equal treatment. Debatable at Macca.

In an equal car and with Hamilton as his team-mate, I think Vettel would - within a few races - beat Hamilton over a season.

Mercedes would probably like to have him in the team.

Mclaren is certainly a team that Vettel is likely to be at in the future if he can keep good form.

Albeit for the reason that he is German which one of the reasons why I think Rosberg has a great chance of the Macca driver should it become available, and of course Heidfeld is German as well.

wasnt' Alonso 21 when he made his Renualt debut in 03?

a year makes all the difference does it??

I don't see how age makes any difference, i think the key word is ability

How many Germans have driven for Mclaren since Mercedes joined them? <whistle>
