A fantastic race - borne out by the fact that 4 of us managed to get more postings in than however many were discussing the F1 race earlier this morning! <thumbsup>

I'm going to measure the colum inches, and time each report on the News about A1GP and this great win for Great Britian. Place your bets now.

We will be lucky if we get a paragraph on it!

I think A1 is very under-represented in the media. The normal tabloids in the UK (Mirror, Sun, Star) give it next to no coverage and probably will keep it that way until GBR wins the title. And even then it will probably be a short-write up

Not exactly Sheila. The 2 F1 live threads got 272 - This one got 152. 120 less. But with less people taking part.

A1 GP is a wonderful series and a terrific way of keeping motorsport alive in the "off" season. Hopefully the media wil pick up on that fact but I doubt it.

Until the race are shown in terrestial TV during the daytime and not at stupid o'clock on channel 5 there will continue to be absolutely no interest in the series apart from people who have Sky certainly in Britain anyway.

Its the same in France as well, in fact I not am even 100% sure the races are shown anywhere at all, I will have look at their scheldues and check.

As for other countries I don't know what the coverage is there.

As you say it is a shame but in newspapers at least there are alot of sports to cover and they can't fit all the various types of motorsports in.

There is always a detailed report in autosport though after a race weekend so I will find out about it then.

Just for the record if people had easy access to the series I am sure people would sit and down and watch, including armchair sport watchers. But not all series of motorsport can fit on terrestial TV.

I agree it is to do with marketing and availability of viewing. In Germany, it is also only on pay TV, and most German motorsport fans have never even heard of the series, let alone knew they won last year. <thumbsdown>
NZ on the other hand had the season on free to air TV, and had a country wide promotional tour with the car and a few of the team, in addition to extra coverage, and competitions leading up to the race they hosted. <thumbsup>

Although I'm disappointed the Kiwis didn't do as well as I hoped yesterday, I'm really pleased to see some new faces up on the podium, and hope it bodes well for a good seasons racing.

Congratulations South Africa <clap>

*The STIG plans a TV program rounding up as many different kinds of motorsport as possible, and sends it to the BBC with hope of getting a commission.

Fat chance.
