From http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/61658 A wise move, or one that Mol will live to regret? The atmosphere in F1 is becoming increasingly hostile for privateer teams (ask Frank Williams), and it looks to be getting a lot worse in coming seasons. Moreover, without the financial backing of a big manufacturer, Spyker will still lack the budget to compete at the top level. Thus Mol is unlikely to redeem much from his investment. On the plus side, though, it keeps Mike Gascoyne in a job.

I think he will regret it of he does buy the team. He could probably put the finance together to buy, but to run it is whole different proposition. As you point out without a major manufacturer who is prepared to bank roll the team IMO he will in a very short time be up the creek without the proverbial paddle. In some ways I hope he doesn't succeed in buying the team. F1 has more than enough non competitive teams already. But by the same token if a major manufacture does by the team for the grid spots there will be even more manufacturers influence. |
