Red Bull Racing's team principal Christian Horner believes David Coulthard has 'risen to the challenge' presented to him by team-mate Mark Webber this season. The Scot will continue to race alongside the Australian in 2008 after his contract extension was made public at the British Grand Prix last month and Horner told F1 Racing magazine that he couldn't be happier with his driver line-up. "Mark and David are the best combination available to us, and I don't mean that in a derrogatory sense because we rate them very highly," he says in September's edition of the magazine, out on Tuesday. As a Coulthard fan I have to admit that Webber has been faster recently, but I would rate the both of them as one of the best combinations in F1. Also I think he's a bit wrong saying Webber's had all of the bad luck, Coulthard has had a ridiculous number of problems in qualifying and was denied points at Bahrain and Canada. |

I agree with Rams, the last few races Webber has had the upper hand. But i agree what you say about the problems, DC has had as many problems as Webber its just that everyone says Webber is the unluckiest man in f1 so he gets all the sympathy. Thing is its up to him to finish the races |

Both Red Bull drivers have had difficulties this season - the car is dreadfully unreliable - but I agree with Horner's assessment; DC has done remarkably well even though Webber is outperforming him. Since 2004, every year has supposedly been "Coulthard's last" in F1, but he keeps surprising us with renewed vigour, and I have a feeling 2008 may not be his last year in F1 either. |

I have always liked DC, i struggle to put my finger on why...and i hope he gets another crack at a better car before he finishes. |

I am no great fan of DC but I think he has earned his contract extension, It is in no small part that his input and experience has given Red Bull an added impetus and the car has improved dramatically. So IMO I hope he is around for a long time yet and carries on enjoying his racing. |

Until one of his teammates actually shows him up as being incompetent, he will still be in F1. And so far no-one has done that at Red Bull-DC has seen off Klien, and faring OK against Webber who is highly rated. If he keeps up his level of fitness which I've no doubt he will, he could well be around for another 2-3 years yet. |

Yes, especially when his gearbox packs it in before lap 20 on 3 races, no one to blame but himself there for not being more stringent when he designed the gearbox and when he ran the QA program on it. |

Good morning Welcome to the best forum on the net. DC Firstly DC is a driver not an engineer or designer. He did not design the gearbox, nor is he resposible for quality control during the construction of the the actual components. His job is to test the the gearbox and report to the engineers how the gearbox performs. If there are areas where he feels that the gearbox, or indeed the whole car may benefit from changes then he will explain to the engineers/designeers where he feels that the car can be improved. He will not design these things himself, he will test and evaluate the the changes. So it is not his fault that he suffered a mechaical failure. |

2 THINGS 1. I was referring to Webber not DC 2. My response was sarcastic considering DC11 made the ludicrous statement that it is simply up to Webber to finish races, when his season has been blighted by mechanical dnfs not of his making, rather than Webber making race ending driver errors. |

I just think its to much of a cooincidence that every season he spends his season on the sidelines, you get unlucky and then you get Webber....... |

True. But then the same must also be true of Kimi. |
