With a ban on such devices coming into force for 2008, the Polish 22-year-old, who survived an enormous accident in the Canadian Grand Prix in June, claims he hates the idea of anything that will might slow him down. "We've gone from nice, slick racing tyres to grooved tyres," he said in an interview in the new edition of F1 Racing, out Tuesday. "We’ve gone from V10s to V8s. And now we go from TC to no TC. I love racing and driving but I want the cars to be the fastest things on earth. "In rallying, you could say that maybe you'd have more fun with rear-wheel-drive cars but if I was going to drive a rally car I'd want it to be absolute state-of-the-art four-wheel-drive. It's the same in F1. Link |

Hmmm.... not as bad as 1986 (IIRC - last turbo year before pop-off valves). I remember Mansell commenting about that in a video. "What's the most powerful car I've ever driven? The turbo Williams Honda, it produced over 1400bhp in qualifying trim and was wheelspinning down the straight at Mexico at 150mph in the wet over the bumps...." or something like that. Now *thats* rather more attention grabbing for the driver....! |

No Traction control? Hurrah! Now they need to get rid of the power steering, and back to a full manual gearbox, and then they will need 22 new drivers who can cope with driving real cars! |

If as Kubica suggests, F1 should be about the cars being the fastest things on earth then we need to get away from having drivers in cars and move to cars that are either drive themselves or are driven remotely. Having a driver in the car limits the potential performance as the g-forces generated need to be kept within the boundries of what the human body can stand. Once you no longer have a driver in the car you have removed this constraint and the cars can be even faster (which is a principal Kubica states he is in favour of). |

The cars always sound rubbish coming out of the corners without TC, but it is a driver aid i suppose but i think it will make little difference to driver performance. |
