Autosport.com - Flavio set to become QPR owner Flavio Briatore, who runs the Renault Formula One team, is set to become the new owner of English second division football club Queens Park Rangers. "Mr Briatore wants to do for QPR what Mohamed Al Fayed has done for Fulham and turn us into a Premier League club," Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini told the Sun newspaper on Friday. "It is a dream come true for all the fans and saves this club from liquidation." Billionaire Briatore, 57, will wipe out QPR's debt of 17 million pounds ($33.78 million) and invest an extra 100 million pounds over three years, the Sun reported. Rangers were last in the Premier League in 1996. Well done Flavio. A businessman by nature, can he turn round the fortunes of QPR like he did with Benetton and Renault? And how much will it affect his role in the Renault team? |

His role at Renault is minimal, I thought. He leaves the racing stuff to Symonds and co. A good football chairman leaves the manager to do what he wants, and only interferes when asked to. For successful example, see Sunderland. |

And Blackpool - which is useful as our chairman is a bit of a crook.... Briatore has all sorts of business interests, but I don't think he really plays an active role in any of them. I'm sure football will be no different. |

It seems a bit of an odd one, I don't see how QPR would be profitable. There are so many clubs in London that even having money might not be good enough. |

Is this F1 news? You might as well start talking about how often Bernie changes his underwear or Bergers favourite breakfast cereal. I'll get my coat! |

Most chairmen don't make money out of their football clubs, so if Flavio is after profit then he will be very disappointed. However he is a very good businessman and good at making big decisions so if there is anyone who can turn the club around then he certainly can. He has taken on many other challenges including F1 which he has succeeded at so lets say what he does here. |

Does this mean that Flavio is now out of the running for the presidency of the FIA? Surely he couldn't juggle owning a football club with trying to manage the biggest motorsport's organisation in the world |
