BS story. Alonso declined an invitation to join Ron, Lewis, and Mansour Ojjeh to take his own holiday.

Just wondering, how many people really take vacations with their co-workers?

Not sure :P I think it would be best for all involved if Alonso moves on from Mclaren. It's causing nothing but problems for the team, Hamilton and Alonso himself, and I'd rather the battle between the 2 drivers was on track rather than via the press, as it seems to have been recently.

A friend of mine who works here, who lived in Spain for many years and has numerous Spanish contacts (and is fleunt in Spanish) told me an interestring one recently. Apparently, despite the fact that Lewis' dad, Anthony, who is his manager, and his mum/gf/other family come along to races and stay in the Mac facilities, allegedly, at Australia this year, Ferdy brought along Mr and Mrs Eyebrow, and Mac told them to get knotted, and they spent the weekend put up at a nearby white, yellow and orange establishment called 'Flavs'. Supposedly, this is where all the "I don't feel at home" stuff from Alonso was sparked. Considering that at present Fernando's dad is acting as his manager too, I fail to see the difference, and don't blame the bloke for being peed off - even if he is a spoiled little kid!

I don't think Alonso would be acting the way he is if there was not good reason. He might be a bit of a whinger but I don't think he would just put on this front as an act, because what would it be achieving? I think it's clear we don't know the full story, but Hamilton is bound to be made to feel more welcome. Mclaren have been paying for his career for the last decade so they will want to make sure his F1 success is with them, and not with, say, a certain team from Italy!

If Alonso WAS to leave, I would be very interested to hear his version of events, but then, maybe we will hear some of it even if he stays.

I think w/ Alonso's money I'd rather spend some time on a small island with my wife, than on a boat w/ Ron.

Not bloody likely!!! I tried to never socialize with other law enforcement officers off duty. I think it leads to a "raise the drawbridge and boil the oil" mentality.

In re: Alonzo: Let's think about it. You have the team owner, the team owners daughter, the team principal, and the other team driver who apparently is dating the owners daughter. There is an ongoing conflict with the other driver and probably the principal, and they invite you to spend some time with them in a small closed environment. I wonder why Alonzo didn't leap at the chance!

If the story is true then an opportunity to heal wounds has been declined.

I think that is the spin the press will put on it, but it's just as likely that Ron invited Alonso, knowing that he already had plans and would probably decline, just to cover himself from accusations of favouring Hamilton.

Still perhaps explains some of the "favoured son" stuff ... if its true then not going to do much for intr team relations

I'm with Alonso on this one.
If the tensions within the team are so bad, I can't really see living in each others pockets for two weeks on a boat being much fun at all.
The atmosphere would be so bad that emotions could easily explode and precipitate some actions that everyone may live to regret.
Having said that IMO Alonso has already decided that enough is enough and will do the minimum to fulfil his contractual obligations and no more.

No offence to McLaren, but the last thing I would want to do after having an argument with someone I work with is go on holiday with them! I would rather go away on my own, calm down, collect my thoughts and relax with family or friends. Then it means that by the time I'm back with the work collegues I'm relaxed and fresh

Or an opportunity for a world class gang beating. I would imagine that Ron and Alonzo want to cool the tempers and end the conflict. Not so sure about the owner who may be influenced by his daughter who is pretty certain to be influenced by her boy friend. I'm just hypothesizing but I see it as a set of high energy strongly opinionated type A personalities in the conflict. This is seldom favorable for a mutually attractive compromise.

I would love to see Alonzo settle down and remain with the team; but I think that it would be necessary for him to strengthen his hand by beating Ham on the track and demonstrating his superiority. Hamilton has a fantastic probability for a brilliant career but right now he is a newbie with errors to be made, and Alonzo is the veteran with a whole book of tricks up his sleeve, if he settles down enough to use them.
