Massa and Raikkonen are almost level on points and only one of them can be WDC.

Shouldn't Todt ask them to flip a coin to decide who will be the No 1 driver, before the next race, so that they can work as a team and concentrate on beating the Maccas, rather than taking points off each other?

Massa's just said how happy he is to have Kimi as a team mate (compared with Alonso or Hamilton) so would he accept the No. 2 role? Kimi has said that he 'doesn't care' about the title, would he accept No. 2?

It really is crunch time. Ferrari are going to lose the Constructors' and neither driver is going to have a chance at the driver's title, unless they do something radical and the only chance they have of beating the Mclarens is if they work together.

Perhaps if they agree that whoever is No1 after the coin toss has to be No2 next year...

Seems to me that a team with two No1's will always lose against a team which has a clear No1 and a No2 to back him up.

As Mclaren don't have a clear number 1 either then there isn't too much of a problem. Its the same problem for both teams.

If Alonso was the clear number one and Hamilton was the whingman then Ferrari would have a problem but as this isn't the case then it isn't a huge issue.

Ferrari have an opportunity to win the next two or three races and for both drivers to make up ground and keep their chances alive.

In the last 1 or 2 races the drivers on the same points could cause a bigger problem.

Being that Kimi has had 2 DNF (which unless he really is a car breaker were not his fault) and Massa has 2 non-scoring points races because of his own mistakes/bad performance, I'd back Kimi.

I'd go for Kimi as well because he is the better driver.

Never mind the coin toss which is decided by fate, how about Rock Paper Scissors - at least this has some skill! <think>

I think Ferrari's best interests could be to make both drivers equal status at the start of the season and see who comes out best as both drivers are more than capable of a championship charge. There is no need for them to employ a number two driver until it is mathematically certain that one can't win the championship

Just a quick question Rob, which part of the Hungary performance was Massa's fault?

As I recall the team didn't put enough fuel in, forcing Massa to start from 16th at a track where it is near enough impossible to overtake? It was no different to Kimi having to rely on attrition to get a point in Monaco.

The fact is that neither of Ferrari's drivers is an all-round match for Alonso, so unless they start taking each other off both has an equal chance of winning the title and should therefore get equal status.

He had the chance to get into the last session didn't he? He did another lap but wasted it.

Also in the race in clear air he wasn't particularly fast.

If I recall, he started 14th, spent most of the race in 16th and ended up 12th. Last years winners started 14th in an albeit strange race, but didn't Mansell from a similar position in the dry IN A FERRARI?

You could overtake in those days. Sometimes even in Hungary.

To be honest, though, performances like last weekend aren't doing Massa's reputation any favours - i.e., that he is great when he's on pole in the dry, but as soon as things don't go his way, he screws up.

That's why I don't rate him particularly highly. If he doesn't get pole, you know he won't win, and you know he won't do anything special in the race.

He did quite well at Silverstone, but it was easier to overtake there.

Maybe he has to start from pole or the back to make a good drive. <think>

Really though I don't think Massa deals well with pressure. Starting at the back, there is no pressure, starting from pole, there is pressure, but not as much as starting 3rd.

The car was all over the place on that lap. If you have it on video as I do, watch it again. Massa was doing well to keep it on the road never mind make the last session.
