I think the reason why Schumi was slated and Alonso is praised is due to their past. Schumi showed at both Adelaide 1994 and Jerez 1997 that he has a mean streak in him and isn't afraid to show it on track. Whereas Alonso has no previous examples of carrying out these types of tactics.

I think you have overlooked the incidents Alonso has been in. The times he has brake tested other drivers to get an advantage, even getting MS a sanction on one of those events too.
I think his winning mean streak is beginning to show. One MS has, Senna had and all other contriversial champions. Alonso has just dropped the boy next door image................if he ever had it in the first place.

You do whatever you can to win the championship. I have no feelings either way on the matter.

Good point there Steel, although I wouldn't just attribute it to all controversial champions. For example, Prost wasn't a controversial champion, yet he turned in on Senna at Suzuka 1989.

The mean streak is part of what makes these drivers great. Take that away from them and they wouldn't be as good as they are

All that I can say, is that if it was on purpose, Alonso would be right up their as one of the most intelligent people in the planet to be able to time the delay to the exact second that only just allows him through but not Lewis. All of this in the heat of the moment in the cockpit.

I don't think that even rain man could do that!!

Hence why I said it was inspired. It was immaculately done, even if it was bending the rules.

I don't think Alonso timed it to perfection, but definitely took advantage of the opportunity he had

Didn't Lewis leave the pits in front of Alonso at the start of the session? I'm near sure I seen an on-board shot at the start of the session where Lewis was ahead of Fernando. If so, then how did Alonso get ahead to cause this problem in the pits?

Maybe it was related to this:

I think it crosses a fine line - and i wouldn't be surprised if there was some internal McLaren sanction against Alonso - even if we don't get to hear about it.

Basically, it's fair enough to take advantage of a situation, or to try and score psychological points off each other, but to physically prevent a teammate from performing his duties is beyond the pale. It's pretty much equivalent to taking them out on the track.

I wonder if James Allen will get a bollocking for jumping to conclusions (like the rest of us).

Poor Damon, he sounded like he just wants to get out of there.

Has anybody noticed that Brundle is absent far more often than JA?

Can you blame him being stuck in a box with that 'thing' for a couple of hours?

That grid walk must seem like heaven!
