Autosport.com - Renault to attend spy appeal hearing Formula One champions Renault will attend an appeal court hearing into a spying controversy between McLaren and Ferrari, team head Flavio Briatore said on Friday. The Italian told a news conference at the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit that the French team would be there because the affair was damaging the sport's image and the outcome was important to everybody. "This story involves everybody sooner or later," he said. "I want to know exactly what is going on because I think it is part of our job. "If you see the newspapers in the last two months, we are not talking about who is the guy winning the race or losing the race. The spy story, if you want, is predominant in everything," added Briatore. "I believe this story is damaging everybody a little bit, including me...Stuff like this is not good for the sponsors or anybody." I didn't know the other teams would be allowed to attend. After all it's a private matter between Ferrari, McLaren and the FIA. And if one team attends then they should all attend And could this mean that Flavio is lining up wee Bernie's job when the poisoned dwarf retires and is trying to mingle into the political side of the sport and see how it is dealt with? |

Actually I think Flav was more upset that he didn't get a look at the Ferrari data. Maybe he is hoping to sneak a peek. |

Possibly not that far away from the truth. He did say he would have been curious to see the brake balance system Ferrari have if he had had the 780 page document. |

Do you think the document will ever be published publicly? After all I'm sure Ferrari have now changed all the car parts that have been mentioned in the document |

I know there was sarcasm in your post, but from what I understand every team will be alowed to be heard. I wonder why Honda has been so silent? |

If any third party should be there is Honda. Not sure why the FIA let them off the hook. |

If one other team is allowed to be there then I think all other teams should attend. |

Conspiracy theory coming up...they know more and did more than they are letting on, perhaps. But they CLEARLY have not benefited! |

I don't think that it is a 'private matter' at all now. The problem is that McLaren were found guilty of having the Ferrari documents. What is being appealed is the lack of immediate sanction being applied. As such, all of the teams have an interest in what occurs in the appeal, as it sets a precedent for what will occur in the future. This does not only apply to Renault - all other teams should be free to attend the hearing as well if they choose. |
