If you discount Ferrari then 1998 until 2001 would have been dominated by McLaren so it is quite likely that he would have done the same. The big question then is where would Ferrari have been in relation to the other teams? If Schumacher had not have joined Ferrari then I don't think they would have signed Ross Brawn et al from Benetton. Without them Ferrari would not have been the same force. On the flip side Jean Todt had already made huge progress in turning Ferrari around when Schumacher arrived (from a team scoring in the low 20s a season to one scoring in the high 70s) and I think he would have continued to have moved the team foward. I still think even without Schumacher, Todt would have turned Ferrari into a team that would fight for titles but it would have taken longer and it is unlikely they would have had a period of domination. |
