Autosport.com - Raikkonen say title still possible Kimi Raikkonen believes he still has a chance to win this year's title, but the Ferrari driver admits he can't afford any more retirements. Raikkonen scored two consecutive victories in France and Silverstone but retired from the European Grand Prix after being hit by mechanical problems. Although the gap to championship leader Lewis Hamilton remained unchanged after the Briton failed to score too, Raikkonen is still 18 points behind with seven races remaining. Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are also ahead of the Finn. Does anyone agree with the Finn? I think he is the fastest driver out there now in normal conditions, but I think the gap to Hamilton is too much for him to overhaul, and dodgy weather at the likes of Spa, Fuji and Interlagos could play against him |

Kimi is a long shot for the title, for sure. I do think that he'll win a few more races this season, but he's got to hope that both Macs have trouble in at least one of the remaining races and have 100% reliability himself, and even that may not be enough. |

He can, but he needs his car to let him do so. He seems to have cut out the mistakes, but his car is still not reliable enough. |

Sure it is possible, he will really need Massa to take points off the Macas and hope they take points off of each other. Of course one retirement from either Lewis and things will get interesting. |

Yes, he can. But only if he has some good luck and the other 3 have some bad |

Mathematically, the top four can still win the WDC, and, without looking (can't remember the standings) probably the top 6 or 7 - BUT, retirements from the others are now crucial to anyone not in the top 3 or so spots, such is the reward for the top finishes.... |

Can he? Yes. Will he? No. The Ferrari is the strongest car - as it has been for much of the season - but it's not far enough ahead of the McLaren to give Kimi the sort of advantage he needs to win the title. His two retirements have damaged his championship challenge, and he will need a lot of unreliability for the other top three drivers in order to claw back his deficit. Such unreliability doesn't look to be forthcoming, however. My tip is Alonso for the title. |

Well, I should add that I have nothing against Raikkonen (actually I am his fan and like his driving a lot) but it looks more and more unlikely that he can win the WDC

I have to be honest and say it looks quite unlikely that Raikkonen will do it now. There are three reasons for this. First, and the most obvious, he is down by 19 points on Hamilton and 17 on Alonso. Second, he is not quicker than Massa at a lot of races, and Massa is also ahead of him in the championship. Third, Alonso and Hamilton can get the best out of a slightly inferior McLaren and will likely not have retirements due to McLaren's good reliability. The last two points combined mean that even if Ferrari have the faster car at all the races for the rest of the season, there is no guarantee Kimi will finish ahead of Massa enough to even finish ahead of him overall, never mind the two McLarens. Who may well beat Ferrari even if they have the faster car due to their drivers. I just can't see it happening, unfortunately a DNF means a lot these days and Kimi having two of them has dealt a hammer blow to his chance. |

He had the bad luck last round if the guys in front have a bad race, he is suddenly back in the title race. If he retires again this weekend though thats curtains |
