BBC Sport - Toseland confirms move to MotoGP

World Superbike championship leader James Toseland has announced he is to ride for the Yamaha factory team in next year's MotoGP championship.

The Ten Kate Honda rider, who won the world title in 2004, leads this year's superbike championship standings by 43 points with four rounds remaining.

The 26-year-old has made no secret of wanting to race in MotoGP, but only if offered a competitive bike.

How do you think he will fare in MotoGP?

Not sure how well he'll do. But happy he's going into MotoGP :)

Who is he going to replace at Yamaha?

Hopefully he does better than other British riders like Jeremy McWilliams, Neil Hodgson, Shane Byrne and James Ellison. And his Superbike background shouldn't hold him back - look at Troy Corser at Valencia last season!

It's rare for a BSB/WSB rider to do well in GPs, so he'll need a huge effort and a bit of luck to get anywhere, but let's wait and see......

I would normally be pretty delighted about this, but Jeremy McWilliams aside every move into MotoGP by a British rider in the last ten years has pretty disasterous. Still I wish JT the best of luck and it can't hurt the appeal of MotoGP in the UK.
