Ron Dennis has fired a broadside at the F1 field by claiming that half of the rivers are "useless".

The McLaren team boss has not shied away from controversy despite the ongoing 'espionage scandal'.

Dennis told The People that most of the current grid are lucky to be in motorsport's premier formula.

He said: "Fifty percent of the grid is made up of useless drivers."

He also explained that Lewis Hamilton has "McLaren in his blood" and reiterated how the Woking team's recruitment policy led them to draft in the British star.

"We wanted a driver who was young and fresh, not a recycled driver coming from another team with the habits of another team," concluded Dennis.

Does Coughlan have the data on this!!

He cant call anyone useless because he has never driven in f1, he just takes credit for drivers victories. But i doubt someone like Ron would say something so stupid

Well, judging by the current red lineup, I would think that Ferrari have decided to hire from the 50% "useless" category.

An alcoholic, workshy Finn, and a latent homosexual Brazilian, who can only perform on dry days where he starts from the front of the grid. <roflmao>

Maybe the problem with Ferrari at the moment is more to do with the loss of their HR guy who took over as technical director, rather than the loss of their technical director. <roflmao> <roflmao> <roflmao>

Well he does have a point. Some of the drivers will never be good enough to win races, no matter what car they are in. Yamamoto, Davidson, Sato, Speed, Liuzzi to name a few.

It depends what you mean by useless. Fifty per cent of the drivers on the grid at any given time will probably never win a Grand Prix, but some of that will be down to equipment rather than talent. Remember that each of our F1 drivers has won competitions in the lower formulae, but as we have seen too many times, that does not necessarily translate into form in F1. F1 is a totally different kettle of fish to anything that any of these drivers will have experienced before, so it's only natural that many of them will struggle. But as for whether that means they're "useless" - well, that's something different entirely.

I'm not convinced he actually said that, doesn't seem a very 'Ron' comment...
