Some things were confirmed at Laguna:

Melandri to Ducati-can't be anyone too surprised at this. Ducati look even stronger now for 2008.

This also holds out the prospect of Loris Capirossi on a third factory Ducati. This would really open up the rider market, as Capirossi is wanted by other teams

Finally Chris Vermuelen is staying at Suzuki, which is a pretty smart move by both sides.

I'm not sure about lots of things regarding bikes...maybe Yamaha should switch to Bridgestone tyres? Or would that not be possible?

It's possible for Honda and Yamaha to switch, but it's not clear they'd want to. Honda and Michelin go back a looong way.

Ok, but this season at least, it is clear that the Bridgestones are the better tyres. Were Ducati on Bridgestones last season? And Yamaha on Michelins?

Yamaha have been on Michelins since the mid nineties. All the top teams were. Ducati switched to Bridgestone in 2005. They wanted to win on the Bridgestone tracks (Motegi and Sepang), because they felt they had no chance against Rossi if they were on Michelins too.

It's not the case that the Bridgestones are necessairly better, but Bridgestone are getting their tyre picks better than Michelin. There are new rules this season limiting Bridgestone and Michelin to 14 front and 17 rear tyres per race weekend. Bridgestone are simply getting it right more often, but as you saw at Sachsenring, Assen and Mugello Michelin sometimes get it right. It's only when they both get it right like Catalunya that we can get a good Rossi/Stoner/Pedrosa fight.
