The riders are the ones putting their life on the lines on these tracks, if they say its getting worse each year and needs resurfacing, the track owners should listen. Better to do the relevant tests to prove or disprove their comments than dismiss their comments and then react after a disaster. There would be no point resurfacing a track thats taken off the calender for being dangerous especially as it seems these days you dont get the race back? |

i agree. anyone who saw casey and valentino last time out wouldnt question their commitment so i doubt they are complaining about nothing.... be a shame if donny which imo is actually a much better advert for uk racing than silverstone in terms of atmosphere and excitment was dropped from the calendar. but as sponsors look east the race shouldnt be taken for granted. |

Surely part of the challenge of going aroudn the circuits is that each one has it's own characteristics? riders and drivers should be able to adapt to the conditions and if they don't think it's to their liking, they can back off. About time these race series realise that what they get is what they're given and it's no use whining. |

It's fair enough raising an issue, but if it was only resurfaced a few years ago, what can they do? Presumably most tracks use the same tarmac or whatever. Perhaps it is slippery in the wet because water offers less grip? I think they should get on with it personally, and just ride slower if it rains. |

seems not everyone likes donny as much as i do. mike nicks on crash.net does his bit for the derbyshire tourist industry. 10.00am - Rickety Donington Loses its Friends I've never known so much ill-feeling about Donington as a grand prix venue as there is in the air this morning. It's not just the track's dangerous lack of grip in the wet - 54 riders fell off yesterday - but the whole package that comes with the place. "This is the worst round of the year," one tyre company manager said. "The hotels are over-priced and poor quality - it's rip-off Britain all over." I agree: in the paddock a fast-food stall is charging £3.30 for a primitive burger and £2 for a small Styrofoam tray of chips. Total value of ingredients? Probably about 60p. There's the usual clutter of grubby sauce bottles on a rickety metal table perched on the grass. I commented earlier this year on the over-priced beer served in wobbly plastic glasses in the Redgate bar. And more than 100 years after the invention of the motor car Donington and the local cops still haven't figured out how to direct traffic. Even at 10am on Friday morning it was taking nearly an hour to cover the three or four miles from the M1 to the track. If it's raining on Sunday - almost inevitable - there could be chaos. The tragedy is that Britain, once a world leader in motorcycle racing, hasn't got a track that comes anywhere near the majesty of the great Spanish or Italian venues. Brands Hatch is one of the world's finest motorcycle racing circuits, but presumably doesn't meet MotoGP safety standards. People say that Silverstone is boring - but I prefer it to dreary Donington perched up on its exposed Midland plan. http://www.crash.net/news_view~cid~6~id~150044.htm |

Ouch! however, having seen Donington after BTCC - I can agree with them on the traffic bit - it's not very well organised at all. But... Donington boring... eh!? the run off the edge of the hill at Hollywood and down into craners is one of the best sequence of corners in the UK. Moto GP have had the circuit practically re-built to suit them - why are they complaining that it's not up to scratch now. Methinks the weather is getting to a lot of people this weekend! |

standing in the rain does tend to make people grumpy. especially when there is nothing going round the track for them to watch. |

If they don't like it, why don't they take themselves elsewhere...are all of the top series' becoming snobbish now? I thought it was just F1... |

I believe the new surface that went down doesn't allow the water to seep away like other tracks. It just sits there. Where are there are joins in the surface it drains away more. I believe the track should be resurfaced with a better surface. |

Clearly it is beyond the means of allegedly the fourth richest country in the world to build even one circuit to the Tilkedrome standard required everywhere else. |

Firstly, Donington is a long circuit! nearly 3 miles long in fact - re-surfacing it would cost millions. Secondly, I don't think it's a case of not being able to afford a tilkedrome - I think that it's more a case of not wanting a clone of somewhere else. Tilke circuits are all far too similar, it would be a sad loss for the UK if all our circuits were to become clones of each other, and if the circuit which kept us on the world stage was similarly, a rubbish road with little or no overtaking places. No 2 of our circuits are the same. yes, there are similarities between them in many ways, but it is the diverse nature which keeps the UK at the very forefront of motorsport. where it's been for ages. Variety is the spice of life, lets keep it that way. |
