I cannot stand the sight of them, and getting stuck behind a couple of them is like paddling in treacle.

My usual quote to a caravan holiday is "if there is no room service, i aint going"

I had many a happy year on the permanent* Marshal's campsite at Silverstone in my tatty old caravan (kept me warm and dry)
One trip up,start of the season, one trip home at the end <thumbsup>
Apart from the trips to the GP's at Brands, that's about the sum total of my caravanning adventures :D

*= no longer permanent :( <roflmao>

I think I'd rather go to a hotel than wear my car out pulling one along with me... (assuming I had either!) Plus you have to clean your own caravan, it doesn't have room service (unless the wife/gf is willing) and you still have to cook. Your fuel economy goes downhill, and the other motorists hate you for getting in the way, and can't see past you making overtaking either very rare, or very dangerous.

Unless you spend every other weekend away from home on holiday, it must be cheaper, more convenient and far less arse-ache to simply book a hotel room or B+B. When was the last time your hotel got a flat tyre or stuck in a muddy field?

I'd rather be in a tent.

I'm sure there's more than a hint of competition on caravan sites
Bigger and better,'keeping up with the Jones's' so to speak <think>

Surely sinking up to the wheel arches with the Joneses would be more apt....

i don't like them

i was driving down the M62 in torrential rain this morning (at 5.20am!) and passed a caravan on its way to a camp site somwhere

should be a nice wet weekend for those people

deserves them right

My ex and I used to have a caravan. Initially we bought it because he raced karts and when we travelled a fair way from home we needed (a) something to transport the kart and (b) somewhere to stay close to the tracks. He subsequently gave up racing when we took up marshalling so the caravan was used just about every weekend during the summer months, trekking from Yorkshire to Oulton, Donington, Mallory and Silverstone and back.

If we'd had to find B&Bs or hotel accommodation for the 60 odd days a year we went marshalling it would have cost us an arm and a leg. So for us, it was cheaper to use the caravan. From a marshalling point of view the caravan was better than a tent because we had somewhere warm and dry to sleep at the end of a wet day and somewhere to cook hot food if it was still raining.

It was a very old, scruffy thing but it served it's purpose and saved us a huge amount of money.
