![]() ![]() Circuit: Indianapolis Motor Speedway No. of GP: 7 (excluding Indy 500) Length: 2.605 miles/ 4.192 kms Turns: 13 Laps: 71 Most Successful driver: Michael Schumacher (GER) 62 points Most Wins: Michael Schumacher (GER) 5 Lap Record: 1min 10.399secs - Rubens Barrichello (BRA) Ferrari - 2004 - This will be the 8th time that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has held the United States Grand Prix on it's road course. However between 1950 and 1960 the Indy 500 counted towards the F1 Championship - Indy is the 9th circuit to hold the official F1 US GP. The others are Sebring, Riverside, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoinex. - Michael Schumacher is the most successful driver at the US GP with 5 wins, with 4 in a row between 2003 and 2006 - In 1982 the United States hed a record 3 races during the season. Long Beach held the US GP West, Detroit held the US GP East and Las Vegas had it's own GP. Ironically there was no official US GP that season! - F1 moved to it's new permanent home at Indy in 2000 after Tony George had developed a infield road course. Unlike the Indy 500 it was run clockwise, with Turn 1 of the famous oval becoming the final turn for the F1 course - Mika Haikkinen took his final F1 win at Indy in 2001. This was also the last race that world-famous commentator Murray Walker was to commentate on having announced his retirement - In 2002 there was a controversial finish when Michael Schumacher tried to stage a perfect finish and cross the line equal with team-mate Rubens Barrichello. Unfortunately for him it didn't go to plan and he handed Barrichello victory - 2003 seen an eventful race with a controversial penalty handed to Juan Pablo Montoya after he collided with Rubens Barrichello. Michael Schumacher took victory on his way to his 6th title after using Bridgestone's superior Intermediate tyre - In 2004 Takuma Sato became only the second Japanese driver to stand on the podium when he finished in third. He matched the achievements of his now team principal Aguri Suzuki who finished third in Japan in 1990 - 2005 provided one of the most forgettable moments in F1 history, when 14 drivers were unable to start the race due to safety concerns with their Michelin tyres. Michael Schumacher took one of his most hollow victories with Tiago Monteiro scoring his only F1 podium in third - Last year an off-form Fernando Alonso was only able to come in 5th, while his championship rival Michael Schumacher scored another victory beginning a sensational fightback and starting a great championship battle Previous Winners (Indy): 2006 - Michael Schumacher (GER) Ferrari 2005 - Michael Schumacher (GER) Ferrari 2004 - Michael Schumacher (GER) Ferrari 2003 - Michael Schumacher (GER) Ferrari 2002 - Rubens Barrichello (BRA) Ferrari 2001 - Mika Haikkinen (FIN) McLaren Mercedes 2000 - Michael Schumacher (GER) Ferrari |

No... not happy as it migh appear... I'll explain... without apportioning any blame the reality is the 2005 USGP was it was the biggest farce I've ever witnessed in F1 (even compared to Austria 2002 which was unfortunate and with hindsight should not have happened the way it did)... The reason I put a and not a was because most fans, quite rightly, will take nothing out of that race but as a Schumacher fan I was happy because without that single shallow victory that season, Schumacher would have scored no wins that year and ended his run of wining a GP en every full season he raced...It a tiny positive from a very bad day....
