So they made the GTI, decided it wasn't quite quick enough so they made the R32. Then thought sod it, let's go the whole hog? The GTI to scare a Supercar |

Awesome ride Krav. I wouldn't mind having one, but would probably kill myself with it. |

Looks like some one has tried very hard to answer a question no one asked.... I fail to see the point or appeal.... sorry not for me. But I'm sure there are some who will be drooling now.... It takes all sorts I guess. |

dare to be different. i love it when someone has a completely barking idea like "hmm, i want a car as fast as a murcielago but that i can see out of and park like my wife's ford focus" job done. whoever built this deserves a medal for doing more than just thinking out of the box... unless someone can tell me why fast cars need video cameras to reverse, claustrophobic cabins and a 25 metre turning circle.

I like concept cars that work, the Veron is barking but it does what it set out to do. VW once made a two engined either golf or passat in the early 80's as one off like this. The front engine powered the front two wheels the rear....well you get it. Tried to find a link, but cannot get hold of one. |

I think it's a runner, I hope it is or it would be a bit pointless. It would be interesting to see where something like this could fit on the market if they ever decided to produce them as nobody makes anything quite like it (I guess the closest thing was the Clio V6 but even that seems tame in comparison). I guess the crux of the matter would be if they could manufacture and sell it to a price which wasn't treading on the toes of Porsches, BMW M's, Merc AMG's etc. If they could manage that, I know at that price point I'd be interested.. well if I had that sort of money

I think cars like this are rather good, purely because they are completely insane. |

It's a cool car but they'll never put it into production. That really annoys me, they show what the are capable of but then don't build it, instead leaving us with a Golf match. |

Its a shame but a company would NEVER make a car like this ![]() The problem is the amount of money it would take to build a car like this and then prepare it for the public roads plus the EU would demand so many aspect of the car to be changed that it would prob land up losing 15% of its power. The Clio V6 was a great car but there is a reason that Renault decided to not produce the car in the latest form. The cost is one thing but alot did not sell so to a car manufacture these cars are pointless if they do not make money

The article mentioned that it was worth £50K but I doubt it would be that cheap. Then again, if it was £50k, would you have a golf or something a bit further up the scale. |

red hot hatch!!! It's a factory built, mid-engined Golf GTi that produces 612bhp. But don't reach for your chequebook just yet - this is a one-off Volkswagen design study for an Austrian tuning show. It uses the W12 engine from the Phaeton, plus two extra turbochargers to produce 641bhp at 6000rpm and 553lb ft torque at 4500rpm. That translates into a 3.7 second assault on the 62mph mark and a electronically limited 189mph top speed. Even more importantly, the mutated Golf W12-650 is rear-wheel-drive and uses a six-speed gearbox, also from the Phaeton. It sits on special 19-inch alloys with 295mm wide rear tyres needed to put that massive power down. The steroid-pumped bodywork is made from steel with a carbonfibre roof, which acts like a spoiler, and further downforce is produced by the full underbody aerodynamic kit. In fact, this Golf would be good for over 200mph without the limiter but, presumably, a little mechanical sympathy is required. It's a bonkers car - to us it looks like an unholy blend of Max Power and DTM racing - but it's also road legal, and VW design chief Klaus Bischoff says "We strived to retain a classic GTi appearance." Still, even a limited production run looks very unlikely, but you never know - after all, Renault did the Clio V6 and VW did the Veyron... Look out for the existing Golf W12-650 design study at UK motor shows this summer. http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?lnk=101&id=2234 |

Absolutely textbook. I'd have one. I really like the new GTI, wish it was a bit more hardcore, but it retains trad Golf values and is such an improvement on the last couple of models. The 18" Monza wheels are great as well! |
