After a 4 week break there will be huge questions over the F1 pecking order as all the teams have done alot of development work and testing. Also Alonso will be keen to impress his home fans and repeat his 2006 success and forget the nightmare he had in Bahrain. Eyes will also be on the new chicane before the main straight to see if it will improve overtaking at what is usually a proccessional event. it seems that the chicance could help bunch the cars up and give cars behind a tow into the main straight. It definitely seems that Ferrari are favourites this weekend after a very successful test in which they have changed many aspects of their F2007 car, massa is confident after his win in Bahrain and Raikkonen is happier with his car than he has ever been, howevere mclaren are very bullish anf confident that they can keep up and have some radical developments themselves particularly in the front wing. Although many predict ferrari to have a clear upper hand, however people were expecting Ferrari to be alot more dominant in the opening 3 races but they are not the ones leading the constructors championship and neither do they have a grip on the drivers title which is wide open, which of the top 4 drivers will get it right this weekend and annouce their intentions for a title charge. Its hard to call but it is definitely looking like it could be a titanic mclaren/Ferrari struggle like 98 and 99 but BMW and Red Bull will be trying their best to close in. The midfield scrap will be tight again as usual as all the teams battle with each other to get near the top 3 teams but testing suggest that Red Bull are the ones to look out for after both DC and Webber showed good form in their car which will rub the seamless gearbox for the first time amongst other updates, their pace already looked good in Bahrain, if that is improved and they can sort their reliability out they could well be the team to watch and make the biggest jump up the grid. You do have to fear for Williams who despite looking as if they have improved could be about to fall backwards again especially after a disastrous week in testing. After the midfield scrap expect Honda to still be struggling and Super Aguri to be embarrassing them, there will be no quick fix there any time soon. In this writer's opinion it will be a tense Raikkonen and Alonso battle. Both have showed great form at this track in the past and seem very happy after testing. they are the men with the point to prove after being flustered a little in Bahrain, but like all sportsman expect a huge fightback and I think we will see this in Spain, if Massa and hamilton can put more spanners in the works then it will be a huge bonus for them. Promises to be another interesting weekend, from the debut of the motorhomes and new wings and who will be leading the championship after the race on Sunday. The F1 season is always comes to live once we get to Europe. Enjoy!! |
