BMW's lead drivers are expecting a tougher challenge in Zandvoort this weekend due to the 35Kg extra weight that they will be carrying (15kg over their nearest rival)

Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, and Jörg Müller dominated the first weekend of the season in Brazil, but they will have to contend with success ballast and a weight-break for their rivals at the Dutch track.

"I am predicting a different situation than what we saw in Curitiba," said Muller. "Augusto, Andy, and myself have extra weight on board.

"Added to that is the reduction in weight for our competitors, so my only aim is to take as many points as possible."

Farfus also believes that the team may not be fighting for victories this weekend.

"We will have to wait and see how the changes in weight affect us," he said. "We will have to get points to stay up there with the leaders."

The drivers have been running with the extra weight in testing though, and the German cars have been quickest at the majority of the tests in since the first race of the season.

Priaulx said: "Our preparations for the start of racing in Europe have been very good, but we need that because the challenges ahead of us are anything but easy."

John, if they win again in Zandvoort will they have to carry more in the following race?

Augusto Farfus fared best of the trio this weekend and now leads the championship after a fine second place...

But the answer is yes the more they win the more ballast they carry... they went into Zandvoort carrying a 36kg penalty... the max that can be added is 70kg...

Farfus will have more added for the next race in 10 days time.

Chevy showed the way in the first race and it was SEAT that romped home in the second

Proof, if needed, that adding weight to competitive cars may mean the minnows get a slice of the cherry... how sporting <thumbsdown>

why develop the best car when the rule mean you will shackle your rivals and let you win.

not sure that Chevy and SEAT are minnows!

i think thats a rather bitter comment, but then.......

perhaps BMW should remember that rear wheel drive would always have an advantage anyway, so how sporting is that!

and I seem to remember that BMW were the first to complain about Audi using a four wheel drive car in the BTCC in 96!

BMW actually took their toys and prams with them after that season and didn't come back!
