Tried to get added to my girlfriends insurance a few weeks ago, she is currently paying 750 for herself, she has been driving for 6 months longer than me and is 6 months older than me, when we enquired about a years cover for myself we were quoted the very "rewasonable" (their words not mine) price of 1500.

Needless to say we told them to take a flying, but it got me thinking how much are people paying on this board and how does it compare to their partners?

Unfortunatly, my NCB is on my mums insurance and cannot be crossed over to my GFs, should really get round to doing my pass plus tho.

There's quite a few factors involved in getting a decent quotation <think>
I'm in the 350ish bracket for a four year old far eastern model
Fully comp, full no claims with protection <thumbs>
Must say I have age on my side <whistle>

In NZ, males pay a much higher premium than everyone else until they turn 25. I think our car insurance was about $NZ360 (for full insurance, not just 3rd party), which is approximately equivalent to £120

Nope, Fully Comp.

GV, do the pass plus! and using your mum's insurance is about the worst thing you could do - you don't get your own NCB for a start.

That's starting to change. You can build NCB with Directline now

have you tried www.moneysupermarket.com ? it's excellent for getting a broad range of quotes, though i'm sure the devil's in the small print.

here in brazil motor insurance is optional <yikes>

once the cost reached a quarter of the value of my old alfa i simply stopped paying... i feel uncomfortable every day, but unfortunately it makes some sense given the incredible red tape and lamentable legal system.

i'm hoping that, being a not young person, and having a clean sheet, when i get back to the uk i will get pretty cheapish rates even without an NCB.
