a battered car is a used and enjoyed car

a prestine car is a unused car which no one has enjoyed.

Which is the better?

A battered car is just that... a battered car... or abused more like... <thumbsdown>


A pristine restored classic is more loved and cherished by it's owner... who most probably knows every nut and bolt in her... has travelled the corners of the land to find the correct parts... is displayed at shows and rallies with pride...

That is better than a battered car which may have dubeous road legality... IMO

i'm firmly in the beaten is better, so long as it is simply showing the story of it's hard working life. and i guess i'm talking about cars over 40 years old here.

show cars and trailer queens leave me cold.

however a well restored car, if you've the time, the money, the skill, and a sympathetic partner, is a great thing, but only if you know the owner drives it too.

if you look at the photo of my car, for example, you'll see it's battered, from 50 years of regular use (not abuse) in sao paulo... fifty years ! but it still pulls (ugh...pulled) people's attention at the show because it isn't a wreck and yet it isn't a cotton-balled showboat.

mechanically it received a proper restoration (brakes, electrics, gearbox rebuilds etc), it's only a straight body i couldn't do or wouldn't pay for.

Well I guess in some parts of the world the standard of driving makes it an impossibility to have an unmarked car, or the lack of any real MOT means death traps stay on the roads longer, or maybe the climate means that rust is not as big a problem as it is for others or getting original parts is more difficult and so damage is often not repaired at all...

I would however have a tatty battered original car rather than a pristine car with body kit.... just a preference you understand

you just described the situation in brazil in a nutshell !

i spent $3k on the car, that was being driven regularly, and spent another $2k just to get it safe and reliable.
