Obviously anything over the speed limit must have happened in Germany ! I'll start, knowing full well that it's all unprovable, but what did the speedo say. Interesting background stories appreciated !

143mph - Subaru Impreza in Belgium, Germany on the way to Spa. Got overtaken by woman on her phone driving a Merc. <blink>
138mph - Lotus Esprit turbo on the M20, Germany, friends car. Had to back off due to it snowing. <clap>
135mph - Porsche 911 SC in France, Germany, friends car on the way back from Le Mans. :D

141 mph (indicated) in my RX 8. I was on a section of elevated roadway in south Louisiana that has no exits or entrances for 12 miles. My Buddy went ahead in a scout car and let me know what was ahead by cell phone. To be honest, the rear end was a little squirmy under the wind load. But I still had RPM's on the tach, as I was at 7700 RPM on a 9000 RPM redline

In theory, the car could do 180 at the redline in 6th gear, but it probably couldn't pull the redline in 6th. I was in 5th at 141.

Plus, the ECU limits the car to 150.

I helped a friend bypass the Japanese 180 kmh speed limiter on his Mk4 Supra, and it was still pulling like a train at 165mph!

Another friend has/had a tuned Honda Blackbird (Dynojet, K+N, full Yoshimura race system) which on one occasion I saw over 175mph as pillion.

My current bike reaches a mere 140mph downhill with the wind behind it, although more than 120 is rare these days.

cool ! sounds like an EPA beating 6th. I've always liked the rx-8, does it go as well as it looks, and any issues with the rotary ?

It lacks torque, but it winds up like like an electric motor. I've put 70 thousand miles on mine since July 2004 with no issues. You have to keep an eye on the oil as it uses oil to lube the roters as they sweep the casing and some is consumed in the combustion.

I had a 1978 911 before this car and this car has much better balance. The Porsche understeered on entry and then oversteered on exit. Too much weight behind the centerline. On a four corner scale this car has almost equal weight on all four corners.

But, it's kinda harsh on the poor roads we have here.

That's it in my avatar (and no, I don't really have my picture on the door.)

175 !!!!!!!!!!! <clap>

You'd have to be barking or very ballsy to do that on a bike, forget as a pillion ! <bow>

I get seriously twitchy in the passenger seat or pillion at anything over 70. :D

Interesting comparison, 911's are an alluring mystery it must be said.

I'm hoping that they do an RS or Club Sport version of the Cayman. I'd sell my grandmother to get may hands on that. <bow>
