I have no doubt the pre-VW Škodas where truly awful... as road cars... but they where very successful in hill climb competitions... |

A chum has a chipped Skoda Fabia vRS. On a trip up to the Lake District he almost kept up with me in the Type-R but used half the fuel. I was surprised and impressed; although I wouldn't have one as my only car. Where's the fun healing and toeing in a diesel?! |

You should also try sitting in one for over 2 hours. It is the most uncomfortable carI have ever been a passenger in. Well, the Skoda Felicia was worse, but still...another Skoda! |

As people may or may not know, until recently i OWNED AND RAN a PRE VW Skoda and it was wonderful. Much more relaible and efficent than my newer astra. I have absolutly no suprise the Octavia is the best car in surveys. Skoda's are good cars. If you cant appriciate that you need to open your mind a bit |

Skodas were fine cars Then the commies got at them Then VW got at them, and they are fine cars again. VW build quality for Skoda money. Ladas on the other hand. uch. no passion, no quality! But they filled a gap. A gap filled by the Dacia Logan in many places, for a cheap, simple car for the masses. Which was what VW started out with in the first place. |

Skodas are boring cars. The Fabia looks awful, and has looked awful for 6 or 7 years. |

Skoda estelle!!!!!!! After the lada riva, they are the worst peice of crap on four wheels man has ever built. I had a summer job when i was at university and got the displeasure to be given one of those to drive. The 'student' without the sales track record got it first, as everyone else had the usual rep car. It was purchased to motivate staff. If we didnt reach targets you got given the Estelle, i met and exceeded those bloody targets within a month so i could take the piss out someone else. As i was the first to drive this thing, i was given a lift to the garage by the grinning sales manager to pick it up. I had to keep a straight face as the over proud skoda salesman described its features, it had rack and pinion unlike its predecessor, the twangy wire from gear stick to clutch was the most stable in the range WTF!!. but when he stated it was a beautiful car i could take no more and exploded in uncontrollable laughter made worse as the salesman was obviously hurt by this youngester not able to appreciate getting a free car to use for work. I stopped laughing when i got in it to drive off, the engine didnt rev it sort of squeeled like a flaging air con generator and it drove itself round right corners, left corners meant a whole new fight with the oversized steering wheel. My dad though made it worse, he was chuffed to bits his young son had a company car and got more and more angry that i couldnt say a good thing about it. Talk about being made to feel guilt and shame, it was then i knew what one of my then football team players felt like after he dated the ugliest girl on the campus for a bet, and she fell head over heels for him. I NEVER want to see another Skoda again

The original post is about the latest models..... and the fact in the real world they have been voted No.1.... It is testament to this achievement that so many have experienced some of the truly awful (pre VW) Škodas and rather than continue to 'slag' off the brand people should appluad the progress make in the last 20 years... If other Marques had made such progress the UK might still have a thriving automotive industry today... this is not an attack on the UK but rather an observation... I fully accept it is only due to huge investments by VW that such a transformation happened... But Škoda still manage to build better cars than their VW/Audi siblings... so it is the Škoda workforce that should be praised. |

Evening Saint... well as you know Ireland weren't exactly against Germany in WW2... not for them mind... just not against In truth I'm defending a good car rather than a German car... besides it's parent may be German but the Marque is from Ceská republika I would never defend, nor praise, an Audi or Porsche... good as they maybe and German as well... arch enemies etc... <thumbs> all I'm saying is Bad as the Škoda of old where and many seem to have had first hand experience of them... I think it is unfair to tar modern Škodas with the same brush as the old under funded under developed communist offerings... |
