http://www.askaprice.com/torque-article.as...o_own&item=2896 and then this one WTF http://www.askaprice.com/torque-article.as...C2%B4&item=2862 Could it be some people are easily satisfied, and when easily satisfied have to vote in these type of questionnaires? They are a poor mans VW driven by an older generation of skoda drivers who in the 80's used to revel at the fact they eventualy got rack and pinion steering, now it must seem they are in a starship and vote like mad for this watered down VW The younger drivers probably never saw the older models, a bit like marrying a fare lady the rest of us know was a hooker roflmao |

We've got a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi Estate and, while it may not be the prettiest car to look at, it's certainly cheap to run, tax and insure. We spend around Ł25 a fortnight on diesel as we can get nearly 60 mpg out of it. Tax is Ł110 (due to go up to Ł115) and our insurance is Ł233 fully comprehensive for both of us. It's also very reliable and I would certainly recommend one to anyone who wants a solid, roomy car. |

People who live in the real world of families and mortgages and who require reliability and value for money in what is most likely the second biggest purchase they make outside of their house... can do a lot worse than buy a Škoda In fact it is the uneducated predigest that keeps prices lower and makes the Škoda even better value... Knock the styling if you must, that is always a personal choice... I mean some people actually like rice rockets.... <thumbs> |

Not really the car for a 22 year old though! Although if I had to choose I would still take the Passat or an Audi A4 I just like them more!

That is fair comment, which is why I said when you have other things to worry about the benefits of the car become more apparent... they are all basically the same car... but I am guessing you will need an AA card more with the Audi/VW than with the Škoda. |

My son used to be an AA patrolman and his car was an A4. When he needed spares he bought Skoda ones as they were cheaper. When we were buying our Skoda we asked his advice and he said that the Passat, A4 and Skoda were all the same vehicles, just with different badges. |

My dad's Skoda sounds like a tractor which is about to blow up. It is reliable though, I'll give it that. 170,000 miles and the only time it has broken down is when the garage screwed up a service check

I worked for a company a long time ago where I had a company vehicle. Nothing flash, a 1.8 Ford Sierra Lx but it was good enough for a job perk. They replaced the Sierra’s with Skoda Estelles (the old ones with the engine in the back). That car was the hardest thing I have ever driver to keep in a straight line. I just couldn’t seem to keep it from lane drifting. Not an experience I reminisce about with a warm glow I can tell you. Needless to say, I did not stay there very long! But it is not the worst I have ever driven. My father for some unknown reason bought a Citroen 2CV! Aye, that was the worst! But it solved his problem of a teenage son whining to borrow his car every weekend! Oh wait....my aunt had a Lada Riva 1.2 and that was pretty nasty too! |
