Impressed as I am by the assistance that has been given in other posts I am here to ask for help in buying the next Ghostmobile.

I'm heading to the UK in May, as an ancient student, studying cabinet making in Devon for a year.

As a notorious skinflint I have allocated a budget of 2k, that's right TWO THOUSAND POUNDS. Pretty damn impressive I know.

I plan to live about 15 miles of A and B raods away from the college, and, as an old race hack (me not the car) I need something that'll cover the ground, shall we say, entertainingly.

My short list would be something like:

Peugeot 205
Peugeot 106
Mini 1.3i
Citroen Saxo VTS <bow>
Jag XJ6 <doh>
Mercedes 450 SEL ! <dunce>
NASCAR Rolls Royce Silver Cloud  <pissed>

Alternatively, I have an old track day 325i sitting in France that will have to wait unless anyone knows an insurance company who's rates are sensible for a car with a roll cage...

What else is out there ? I am hoping for serious and ridiculous ideas  :D

Peugeot 306 Gti 6

I have one as my daily drive and it is superb.

Have very fond memories of my 6. Fantastic car :D

I keep telling you should get one again roflmao

I know. and keep sending me ads for them too :D

if i pushed the budget to 3k, how dumb an idea would it be to buy a sensible miles impreza turbo, if i can find a straight one with a service history ?

or a 944 ? or bmw 325 ?

am i just asking for huge bills ??

Honda CRX dude?

good thinking....

nice choice, hadn't crossed my mind, definitely would take one over a (non-gti) piece of european junk !

i want to avoid anything too 'fast and furious', but this one would fit the bill despite the to mars and back mileage !

a honda ? for sure. thanks :D

now i can thank this board for supplimenting not only my memory but my imagination too !

No problem my friend! Those VTEC engines are awesome fun and never break down. With regular oil checks and servicing you could run a CRX for years!

My wife had a CRX in the 1980's. I crashed it and turned over and the engine ran for a little while even though it was upside down.

I'm impressed that you were still taking in technical data even after rolling the damn car !

I think I'd me more

"holy shit, get me out, get me OUT ! it's gonna BLOWWWW !!"

or something equally calm and stylish :D
