Who do you feel is F1's most wasted talent? Here are a few choices to get you started Herbert- Had bags of talent but after that awful crash at Brands hatch never got back to his best but still did well to win a few F1 races. Brundle- I actually thought Martin was a very good driver but was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. During his team alongside MS he did enough tro make sure that MS pulled all the stops to make that Brundle wasn't his team mate the season after. By far one of the best drivers never to win a race. Montoya- Had the pace to win more races and maybe a championship but in the end the move to mclaren ended his career and a lack of results |

Haven't we had this one before? I'd go along with Montoya. He had the talent but not the temperament. Or perhaps the desire.

For some reason not all of my last post came up, here is the rest of it. Alesi- Had lots of pace, good racer, but wasted his peak time at ferrari when they were not performing, if he had done to williams I thought he was good enough to be a champion. Frentzen- If he was more confident and not scared of Patrick Head he could of gone on to better things, when the Jordan was more competitive than usual in 99 he showed how good he could be and almost won the championship. I thought he was a very quick driver, if he had spent more years in a top car where the team were behind him he oculd have had more race wins in his career. Could Raikkonen and Fisi be the next drivers to go on this list? |

Fisi yes, Kimi no. But then, Fisi has showed these past 2 years that he is not as good as we thought he was. |

hmmm, i don't think fisi ever had it, and kimi's got another 8 years left in him. so completely agree with safc heidfeld lost a seat at mclaren to kimi, and may also have lost his moment in the sunshine... |

Heidfeld is an interesting one...I think it's too early to say for him as well because BMW are emerging as a good team. If Heidfeld does leave F1 without ever winning, I think it would be more a case of his talent being ignored than him making any bad career moves. Well, if you discount Jordan in 2004

I think Heidfeld is in the right place and he is just approaching his peak time so he still can be successful despite losing that macca drive to rakkinen in 01/02. |

As far as I understand it, Heidfeld didn't have any choice for 2004 bar Jordan or a year out - and we know how difficult it is to get back into F1 once you've left. |

I'd like a clarification about this. Do you define wasted talent as someone who was talented enough to do so but did not win the WC or plenty of races or someone who was talented but did not do justice to his natural ability. The reason I ask is because a person may be very talented, drove to the best of his abilities, yet did not win much due to luck, accidents, being in the wrong car, etc .... But still did enough for people to acknowledge & admire his abilities. Giles, Herbert, Alesi maybe Frentzen for eg would probably fall into this category. I'd go so far as to put Button in there too, as of today. On the other hand there could be someone with great talent, who had the breaks but still did not win enough to justify his talent. Montoya certainly falls in this bracket. So would Fissi, if he doesn't improve his record soon. Taking the second category, since I believe that is a greater waste, I'd say Montoya wins this title. |

Maybe Wurz will prove this season he should of been racing instead of testing. |

Jean Alesi - decided to waste his best years at an average Ferrari team instead of joining the up-and-coming Williams Renault in 1990. By the time he got to Benetton in 1996 his best years were over and the team was beginnging a downward spiral Johnny Herbert - Had it not been for Brands Hatch 1988 he could have been a great driver. Had a successful career with 3 wins and a highest of 4th in the championship but it could and should have been so much more Juan Pablo Montoya - After such a promising career in the lower formulae and conquering the American racing scene, Montoya has to be seen as a wasted talent in F1. 7 wins in 5 and half seasons in two fast cars isn't a great record and was too inconsistent Giancarlo Fisichella/ Jarno Trulli - both came into F1 with a reputation of a fast driver and were touted as future world champions. After shining with the smaller teams in F1 they never delivered when given their big break and their F1 careers could soon be over with little success |

Andre De Cesaris. Quick and consistant, never got that top drive to prove his worth IMO. Ayrton, such a sad waste of talent it makes me angry. plus he never got the opportunity to drive for Ferrari. Him and MS, wow, what a team. |
