Indy road course could be reversed Although it's being seriously thought about for MotoGP, there is some talk that F1 could run the road course in an anti-clockwise direction so that the current Turn 13 would become Turn 1, the same as the Indy 500. Would this ruin the best overtaking spot on the course, and could it spell the end of F1 at Indy due to low interest? |

At least they could sneak some disguised Michelins on and not have to worry about hitting the wall...............

I fail to see how reversing the track would end formula 1 in the USA. There would be a great overtaking spot as they turn into t2 |

think about it, if they reversed the course, the speeds going into T1 (T13) would be much higher, because they would have built up more speed on the pit straight and onto a banked corner... |

This sounds like quite a good idea, although i would prefer if they stayed with the current structure. |

... untill you also realise that the forces on the braking coming out of turn 2 would now be much higher, leading to possible brake problems later in the race. |

Just running through the circuit backwards in my head and there some interesting parts, turn 2 would be a very high speed entry coming off the old turn 13, it would be very hard on the brakes and there would be at least 2 other spots where overtaking would be possible. Could actually be interesting and add some renewed interest to the US GP. |

Wouldn't the corner actually become the braking zone for what would then be T2 though? |

not sure, but i think trying to race for position into a series of tightening bends is a text book way to prevent overtaking, as the car in front has several opportunities to secure the racing line and block the driver behind. and i don't even want to think about what would happen if someone tried to dive down the inside... the only good thing is that they will come onto the straight relatively slowly and so close... but then i'm not even sure of that. sounds like a recipe for disaster every bit as big as the bush/cheney ticket

Maybe they could run half the field clockwise and half the field anti-clockwise? That should spice things up a bit! |
