Fisichella has admitted that renault are at least half a second behind pacesetters Ferrari and mclaren and has said that not being able to extract the maximum from the tyres has been one of the main tyres. The Italian also says that there will be some new bits for Australia but I suppose that is the same for all the teams. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/57060 Can Renault close the gap and win some races or is it too much of an ask? |

That half a second is prob not the car. I am sure if you put Alonso or another top driver in the car it would be matching the others |

Of course they can. I reckon once Kovalainen has a few races of experience he will be able to win in the Renault, providing they continue development of the car. Which I presume they will. |

Fisi is getting his excuses already in. To be honest i reckon they are slower than half a second behind. Its going to be interesting to compare fisi and kovy on lap timings and sectors come the racing. |

the difference between renault and mclaren is probably not the car. i have a feeling kimi has been sandbagging and the half second we can see now is the car, and there's another half to come from kimi. anyone want to bet against kimi's best qualifying time being a second faster than fisi in australia ? |

Make it a good bet, like if Kimi beats Fisi in quali, Flabio cannot use his money to bag a model for 10 months. |

Fisi should have replaced the "we" with an "I". |

I would say from what we have seen so far Fisi is about right. But that doesnt mean it isnt good enough for the podium, its a nice early excuse from Giancarlo he isnt even waiting for the season to begin now. |

It's hardly an excuse. It's just a reality. Everyone at Renault seems agreed they are not on the pace of Ferrari and McLaren now. If he was like DC claiming every year for a decade he was going to win the World Title despite reality people would be more justified in criticising in my opinion. |
