In 2007 the FIA WTCC competitors will race under a reduced handicap weight system that was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council after a proposal from the Touring Car Commission. The imposition of handicap weights remains based on different criteria: race results and championship points. a) a 20 kg handicap is automatically allocated to each driver from the first event in which he takes part; b) according to the sum of points obtained in the two races of each event, weight handicaps are imposed according to the following scale: 1st + 20 kg (previously + 40 kg) 2nd + 15 kg (previously + 30 kg) 3rd + 10 (previously + 20 kg) 4th + 10 kg (previously + 10 kg) 5th + 10 kg (previously ± 0 kg) 6th + 5 kg (previously – 5 kg) 7th + 5 kg (previously – 10 kg) 8th + 5 kg (previously – 15 kg) 9th - 5 kg (previously – 20 kg) from 10th onwards - 10 kg (previously – 20 kg) The maximum handicap weight imposed under b) is set at + 40 kg (previously + 60 kg) and the minimum at – 10 kg (previously – 20 kg). c) according to the Championship points: 5 kg for every 10 points scored d) handicap weights a) b) and c) are cumulative up to a maximum of 60 kg (previously 80 kg). [ FIA ] I think BMW will be happy with that... now if they can get rid of the stupid penalty for being the only manufacturer who has stayed true to it roots and stayed rear wheel drive.... even better. |
