f1 fans slag off other series and have snobbish attitudes towards

like has been admitted, lots of f1 fans have little understanding or knowledge of other series yet they still pass comment on the quality of them

despite knowing nothing about them through their own ignorance

I am a motorsport fan and I know about other series and what people should understand before they slag off the quality of NASCAR is that JPM wasn’t racing in the real nascar championship, he was racing in the second tier championship againsts second tier drivers

Now, don't be tarring all F1 fans with the same brush!

I certainly see a lot of F1 snobbery about the place, but that doesn't mean we're all doing it. Although F1 is the only motorsport I watch religiously, I have no problem with series like NASCAR, IRL, A1GP etc., and I can certainly see the appeal of oval racing even if it doesn't grab me completely.

And you're right: JPM beating several "second-tier" NASCAR drivers doesn't mean he's about to set the NASCAR world alight, and it certainly doesn't mean that F1 drivers are any better or more versatile than drivers in NASCAR. But I appear to be in a minority who believes that F1's loss was NASCAR's gain when it comes to Monty, and I am pleased to see him doing well, even if I wouldn't personally choose to follow NASCAR in the same way as I do F1.

no Tony Stewart, no Dale Earnhardt Jr, no Mark Martin, no Kevin Harvick, no Kasey Kahne, no Kurt Busch, no Kyle Busch, no Jeff Gordon, no Jimmie Johnson, no Matt Kenseth, no Jeff Burton, no Clint Bowyer, no Brian Vickers, no David Stremme, no Ricky Rudd, no Casey Mears, no Ryan Newman and I could go on!

yeah, but only Stewart, Martin and maybe Jeff Gordon are any good on road courses....

What's this thread doing in F1, can someone please move it to where it belongs? As it's a thread about JPM you won't be surprised to know that it keeps crashing my browser.

Just joking of course.

It's here in F1 because while F1 fans relish the idea of exporting their drivers to other series and then discussing it, the fans of other series, well, don't seem to relish it in quite the same way.

this isn't a thread for nascar enthusiasts, patently, it's a thread for f1 enthusiasts.

unfortunately.

Interesting viewpoint because you are a notorious F1-basher! roflmao

Sometimes the ignorance you talk about is not ignorance, but personal taste. I say Nascar is boring because I find it boring. Doesn't mean I am labelling the whole thing as boring, it is just what I think.

I made a comment questioning F1 websites' continuous monitoring of Montoya's Nascar exploits because he is old news when it comes to F1. There are Nascar websites if people care about his career. After all, Yuji Ide gained a bit of a fan club after Australia but we never hear of him. Fair is fair...

I like watching the IRL following Dario Franchitti, i believe he retained his seat for this season.

With a thread like this Stradlin it was always going to lead to these sort of comments

perhaps this says something about f1 and its current drivers?

nearly called them racing drivers there but that might bit misleading.

<whistle>

As the NASCAR website mentions, he's the first latino to ever win a race, that is enough of a reason to celebrate, and to do it in Mexico and dedicate it to the latino fans, well that's just icing on the cake.

And so now he's shown he can beat all so-called second tier drivers, the only one's he has left to beat are the best of the best. You mentioned:

Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Burton, Clint Bowyer, Brian Vickers, David Stremme, Ricky Rudd, Casey Mears, Ryan Newman.

Now in qualifying at Daytona Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex, and Jeff Burton were faster than JPM.

And Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, David Stremme, Brian Vickers, Ricky Rudd, Casey Mears, Ryan Newman were slower than JPM.

Of course qualifying isn't racing, F1 fans know that too, but for outright speed it seems that JPM only has eight drivers to worry about, not seventeen. At least on the superspeedways, probably fewer on the road courses, and who know's on the short ovals.

BTW this isn't slagging anything or anyone off, it's just objectively listing facts.

JPM is quick, no doubt

he was extremley quick at Daytona (i mentioned this before)

but he is having massive problems racing in a pack of cars on ovals, he doesn't yet understand how the aero's work and he often drops to the back on his own

some drivers who arent so quick excell in racing in heavy traffic (Mike Wallace is a good example of this)

once JPM masters this then he will get nearer the front

this seasons, i think his best chance to win is on a short oval, either Bristol or Martinsville where aero's don't matter as much

This is good to here <clap> , one of the races i watched last year he came through from quite far back to lead but then went backwards at the end because others on the lead lap put on new tyres. Its exciting and i watch it when i can.
