JPM takes first stock car win

A controversial win for JPM. Does this reflect good on F1 drivers that they can turn up in a completely different series in America and win from the start? Or was JPM more suited to the American style of racing more than F1?

I don't think JPM had enough work ethic for F1 so could never be consistent and mount a championship challenge, I definitely think American racing suits him better overall and congratulations to him on his first win.

I may be a lone voice but I wish he was still in F1.... glad he is taking to NASCAR so readily....

He may still bag the Daytona 500 after he has had a full season... this year was too soon.

I really enjoyed the race (watched online). After JPM had the problems though and slipped down the field he did a really good recovery job but agree move for the lead was controversial!

let me put this into pespective for you

he won a BUSCH series race

the Busch Series is the NASCAR second tier, it doesn;t have the quality of the Nextel Cup and alot of his rivals in Nextel Cup weren't racing in the Busch race

he also won on a road course, where he is more at home AND he had to take off his teammate to do it!

Something I would like to know...why do itv.com/f1 keep reporting on Montoya's Nascar exploits? Do they not realise that F1 is no worse off without him?

However, they did state that many Nextel Cup drivers *were* in the race.....

Still, let's see what happens when the Cup comes to a road course....

No John you ain't, I also wish that the Columbian was still drving in F1, yes the guy was a tw_t but he was an exciting driver who was willing to take risks to try and over-take. (yes, sometimes it ended in disaster, but hey it was fun watching sometimes!). IMO I think Montoya could have still done something (other than crash and eat) in F1, and I think the guy will ultimately be a success at Nascar?! How successful who knows?!

Gald to see he is starting to show some potential even though its only in the second tier Nascar championship event..........

I doubt many other nascar drivers could win after dropping to 21st whith only 2o laps remaining. GO JPM!

I watched the last 20 or so laps of the race (or should I say 4 laps of racing with 3-5 laps of yellow) JPM diced the field. I know he had newer tires, but it doesn't say much for Goodyear if a tire looses a second per lap after being used for 10 laps.

I look for JPM to do pretty well when NASCAR go goes on the road courses.

I think JPM will do well once he has settled in. There is no doubt in my mind that the standard of driving is higher in F1 than any of the American Series (IRL, Champ Car and Nascar). Although I love watching IRL and Champ Car (and NASCAR), only a fool would say that any more than 1 in 100 are good enough from those series to be considered for an F1 career.

With Yuji Ide being a fine example of those great driving standards!
