What are some of the worse team moves that F1 drivers have made in their careers. Villeneuve: Williams to BAR: He could have gone to somewhere like mclaren but instead he went to a team that promised alot but gave very little, he stayed there too long and his career went downwards. DC: Williams to Mclaren: Stayed there far too long, his car had bad reliability throughout his time there, never had full backing as Ron preferred Mika and had a close relationship with him after Mika had his bad adelaide accident, he had some good times and a few memorable wins and drives but never had enough luck or support to mount a challenge for a full season. If he hadn't had chosen money and stayed at williams he could have gone gone for a title or two. After all Jacques managed it. Alesi- Ferrari- Alesi was a very good promising driver but chose his emotion towards ferrari rather than a championship chasing drive in a cal like the williams. Only ever managed 1 win during his time in the Ferrari, overall the car was never quick enough for him to do anything with and wasted his talent during the peak of his career. Webber- Jaguar to Williams- Webber chose Williams over Renault and whilst renault had a championship challenging car for two years Williams were struggling in the midfield most of the time, Webber showed some brightness and good drives but now people are doubting his ability based on the last two seasons. Might Red Bull turn out to be a bad career move too? Fisichella- Benneton to Jordan- 2002 and 2003 were very uncompetitve years for Jordan and Fisi couldn't really do much with the car. He was better off going to a different team or staying at Bennetton then renamed renault as the car was making progress after the dismal 2001 campaign. A few other bad moves Montoya to mclaren- bascially it ended his F1 career Barrichello to Ferrari- yes he was in the fastest car and yes he had some a couple of good wins but with MS as team mate he will always be remembered as reliable no 2 driver and he was never going to be able to acheive anything great. He also stayed too long. ralf to toyota- It doesn't look like they are ever going to get to the front of the grid, Although nobody probably wanted ralfie anyway. What are some of your worse driver career moves. I have included more recent bad moves but you can look over the whole of F1 history. |

I would think Damon Hill from Williams to Arrows was a very bad move. He was in a championship-winning car and had the chance to go to either McLaren, Benetton or Jordan but chose Arrows who had never won a grand prix or even appeared on the podium for years. Apart from Hungary, Silverstone and possibly Austria the car was never challenging for points and Damon knew he had to leave at the end of the season. It ended his days as a top-line driver in F1 |

Did Damon really have the option? I seem to remember he was pretty brutally pushed out of Williams having won the championship. Did he really have the option of joining McLaren?? |

Emerson Fittipaldi joining his brother's team has to be the worst in my opinion. He gave up the best years of his career. |

Disagree on the DC one. Where else would he have gone? It is through Hakkinen's superior talent that DC won nothing at Mclaren. |

stayed at Willams, if you read his biography it clearly states that, he left Williams at the wrong time. |

Doubt I ever will, but on paper Mclaren was a decent move. And he could have been successful at Mclaren had Hakkinen not been there. So yeah I guess it WAS a bad move. JV to BAR. Dreadful move that was! |

In the modern era it can ONLY be JV's move to B.A.R what a fricking disaster that turn out to be, a classic case of "how to flush your career down the pan". At that point in JV's career most people in the media and fans thought JV was the only driver that could challenge a certain German...........but then up steps a flying Finn of course. Damon had little choice. but the move to Arrows pretty much killed anymore potential success in his career. Berger and Alesi to Benetton, the worse career move for Benetton that is. |

The funny thing was after all Jacques years of trying the first full season after he was kicked out they went from 5th in the constructors to 2nd with around 100 more points. |

Agreed; Emerson made an emotional decision that cost him dear. With Stewart retired, he had the chance of becoming the driver of the generation. His eventual comeback in Indycars proved that the talent hadn't deserted him. |
