Several formula one teams tested the use of brake lights at the Bahrain test last week.

Sources report that runners for Super Aguri, Toyota, McLaren, Renault and Ferrari - and possibly others - trialled the innovation at the Sakhir circuit. The news is sure to spark speculation that the governing body could implement brake lights on the grounds of safety.

Further information is not available at this time, but it is clear that the single rain light below the rear wing glowed red when the drivers braked into corners.

PaddockTalk Perspective

Not so long ago this subject was brought up, but F1 drivers at the time considered it unreasonable to make their braking technique known to other drivers.

And we aren't convinced that this is for day time driving.... At night they would make an interesting added visual effect.

Next they will want indicators put on the cars. Only trouble would be that they would never be used.

Well, that would be a distraction wouldn't it? And at 200mph, you don't need that. Unbeleivably dangerous IMO.

fit rear fog lights too, and if we can get a few women drivers in F1, they can leave them on in clear conditions making people think they are brake lights!
