With all of the questions regarding second drivers who are now free of the first driver, i.e. Massa & Fisi, how do we explain that Fisi did not match Massa's pace in 2006? Alonso/Schu fought the championship with the same team equipment as Fisi/Massa. Is it team orders, team priorities, or driver skills that make the difference? I like Fisi and have for years, but I thought that he didn't compare to Massa as a second driver. But, I'm not a statistics nut, so I can't defend my point of view with the numbers. Can you agree with my impression or can you refute it? |

Has to be Massa really, at least when the Ferrari had dominant pace massa was reliable and either finished 2nd or 3rd whereas Alonso was constantly complaining about Fisi's lack of support in his title fight. Overall I felt Massa was closer to michael than Fisi was to Fernando. |

unfortunately i am a statistics nut, and can come up with all sorts of junk to create an argument ! however, all i can say about last year is that over the season, while Massa's fastest laps averaged 0.6secs slower than Schueys, Fisi's were only 0.4secs slower than Alonso's. Now even if one were to say MS was a 0.2secs faster driver than Alonso in his retirement year, you still have two equally quick no.2's, but very little to suggest that Massa was the better of the two... both have a lot to prove this year if they are to be considered top flight star drivers... I'm just editing this and realised your point... it isn't about absolute pace, where there probably isn't anything between the two, it's about fight, commitment and focus throughout the whole race, where i would also say that massa seemed more determined throughout. |

That can be explained by the fact that Schumacher's ultimate pace was at times astonishing. That's not something that can be said about Alonso. With Alonso, it is his pace but also his consistency that has got him 2 championships. |

I am biased in favour of Fisi I will admit that but I can't believe all the stuff I read about Massa on this and other boards and in some of the press! The guy did not even manage to outqualify MS until Hungary! And we are meant to be impressed because he crashes less these days? So does Taku.Lets give them both a round of applause. And it's not that long since they were driving identical equipment. Has Massa improved since Fisi beat him then? Possibly. But then again so has his car! But Mr Ghost may have a point about commitment. Fisi rejoined Renault to finally try and win the world title. It must have been tough maintaining motivation when he discovered the guy in the other car meant that was not happening. Massa joined Ferrari to be MS's monkey and hopefully win a race if MS hit problems.Hey his dream came true! |

In some post season analysis wasn't there an article that on average Fisichella was a lot closer to Alonso's pace Massa was to Schumacher's? |

Yeah that's right, but Fisi ended with just over half as many points as Alonso. That's rubbish. |
