It seems both F1 and A1 are keen to have a race in Singapore, but an article here from an 'unnamed source' suggests that a F1 deal has already been done, and a night street race in Singapore could be on the calendar as early as next year...

"I can confirm that Singapore is on the calendar next year and it could either be the third race of the season, or towards the end of the season in August," the anonymous source said, explaining that he is bound by non-disclosure rules.

A night race in Singapore would be nice for us European viewers, at least!

A fight between F1 and A1.

Whilst Bernie is in charge there is only one way that fight will go.

If Sinapore does join the calendar next season and UAE join in 2009, does this mean that there is no limit of races in the new Concorde Agreement like there was a 16-race limit on the last one? I think all the teams are paid for each extra race over the 16 under the current agreement

The current Concorde Agreement, I believe, states that Bernie has to pay the teams for any races additional to the mandated 17 (confusingly referred to, I believe, as sixteen-plus-one). I don't know what the new one states, but with Bernie wanting to expand the calendar I doubt if there will be a limit (or it could be higher, like 20).

Bernie has said himself that he is aiming for a 20-race calendar. With the amount of cash in F1 at the moment, I'm not sure why teams need to be paid for those extra races.

The teams habitually complain about there being too many races, but if F1 finally decides to ban mid-season testing and instead introduce Fridays as fan-friendly test days, it would make sense to have more races.

Fridays are test days, just about, now anyway.
