Giancarlo Fisichella expects Renault to consider backing one of their drivers early in the season if he or teammate Heikki Kovalainen open out an early advantage.

We'll see if Renault decide to concentrate on one driver to take him to the title.
That's the way it's been in the last two years, and the strategy worked. However, for an infinite number of reasons, the chosen one wasn't me.

<think> Keeps the pressure on Fisi then, with a talented rookie wanting to prove himself in the other driver seat...

I can't see Renault focusing all their efforts on Fisi...

I think it's a sensible solution.

If Fisi can beat Heikki early in the season, I can see him doing well if he has the team behind him. Otherwise, Heikki will benefit greatly.

I guess it also depends on Renault's plans for the future. If Fisi isn't in those plans, they would be best focusing on Kovalainen.

Fisi is only on a one-year contract, suggesting this year is win or bust for him....

I guess we will have to wait until the season gets going.

We have been quick to write him off, well I have at least :D, but he might do better without Alonso in the team. He is a good driver, and has shown that prior to his stint at Renault.

Yeah I agree, but I feel that the best years of his career were wasted at midfield teams. Whether or not he can step up like he did on occasion at Benetton (Canada '98, Spa '01 for example) will be the big test - but I have a feeling he will fare much better if the team is behind him.

Does Fisi feel that the team want to win the driver's crown over the constructors? Surely they will be pushing both their drivers hard until one of them is realistically out of the race. They have won the constructor's crown the last 2 seasons with an excellent lead driver and an average second driver considering the car he was in. They will want two strong drivers out there to be able to fight for the constructors as well as the drivers crown

I remember a quote from Flavio along the lines of "no-one ever remembers the constructor's champion".

i am sure he'll devote whatever resources are necessary to win the driver's championship, even if at the expense of the wcc.

Sounds like its a wake up call for fisi, do well or we will make you want to leave.
This is not what you want to hear at the start of the season.

As Kovalien is another one of Flavio's hotshots he will surely want to try and make sure that he is the one that the team focus on most.

It wouldn't surprise if Fisi has far more reliability problems than heikki next season starting off this whole conspiracy theory again.

Even if Fisi has a decent season its curtains for him basically.
