Non-Championship Races; Could They Work Again?

Should the teams have non-championship races during the off-season instead of tedious testing sessions at circuits that aren't included on the calendar? These could involve their named race drivers or possibly each team's test and reserve drivers. It would allow the teams to test their race set-ups and see how their cars and tyres work over a proper race distance, practice pit-stops and even give the fans (YES - The Fans!) something to talk about before the season starts

Too much money in the sport now for that...... can't see it ever happening.

Could it happen after 2008 with all these cost-cutting ideas coming through?

I think they would be processionals (much worse than the most boring race). No one will want to damage their new car on something that means nothing.

Very true. F1 teams care not about the fan's enjoyment.

Non-Championship races worked when there were less than half of the races we now have. It filled in the spots, allowed for testing with potential small-prize money and gave shots to new drivers (as time went on).

Now there is no real need for them even though I'd have preferred to see these types of races back.

They would be pointless: a waste of time for all concerned.

It wouldn't allow for the multiple set ups and part changes that are a part of testing.
