Ramirez predicts Alonso, Massa battle

Former Macca manager Jo Ramirez believes that the championship will be between Alonso and Massa. Bit of a kick in the teeth for Raikkonen - after all Ramirez was in F1 long enough to know a few things and worked with drivers such as Lauda, Prost, Senna, Berger, Haikkinen and Coulthard so he should know a natural fast driver when he sees one

I detect yet another ex boss/driver/media who has become a kimi basher and Massa worshipper, everyone really hates him now he drives for Ferrari don't they?

As long as Ferrari is fast and reliable Kimi should wipe the floor with Massa 10 times over, people seem to be forgetting what Kimi is capable of.

And does Massa really deserve all this praise, yes he has improved but what else?

The way testing is panning out it will be a 3 way battle and as we all know in F1 anything can happen.... and usually does. <thumbs>

Massa is enjoying the 'freedom' and the pressure is more on Kimi to get the upper hand early or Ferrari will start issuing 'guideline' to it's drivers about helping each other... <whistle>

Everyone knows I don't rate Kimi as a top notch driver, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't at least equal with Massa on raw pace, even if his consistancy is a bit lacking sometimes.... could be intersting to watch!

To be fair all I've seen that Kimi is capable of is:

a) Being very quick when the car is good
b) Not trying very hard when the car is poor
c) Breaking down a lot.

Italy last year, he admitted that he gave up the fight with MS after the first pit stop, very uncharacteristic.

People say he was poor in 2006 but if you look at the fastest lap times in races and you notice that he wasn't that bad, his fastest laps were probably faster than Massa.

I am not saying that Massa won't give Kimi a run for his money and it should be good to watch at times, I was exaggerating a bit earlier I admit but if Massa beats Kimi over the full season(and maybe becomes champion) then it will be one of the biggest shocks in the sport in its whole history.

interesting.

i did a bit of an analysis of fastest laps for the races in 2006 where they all finished and they came out like this:

avg fastest lap:

MS 1:21.69
FA 1:21.94 + 0.26s
KR 1:22.06 +0.37s
FM 1:22.25 + 0.56s

a little different to how the championship played out (FA, MS, FM, GF, KR).

I'm going to do GF stats...

yeah, thats very interesting, on those stats kimi wasn't slow, the car wasn't consistent enough and good over a single quali lap, that was the main problem.

avg fastest lap (different group of races where they all finished):

MS 1:20.70
FA 1:20.98 + 0.28s
KR 1:21.08 +0.38s
FM 1:21.30 + 0.60s
GF 1:21.39 + 0.69s

still looking for valid reasons why KR is the slacker, whereas Massa and Fisi are what, good at their homework !

they certainly don't merit no.1 driver status...

I think that people have gone way over the top with Kimi bashing with comments like this.
Its not that I rate Raikkonen super high, but it think he is a lot better than Massa. I for one am dumbfounded by the praise Massa seems to have bestowed upon him these days.
If the pint sized Brazilian scores more points than Kimi this year, I will eat a yard of Robs s__t on the main straight of the Daytona Speedway.

I feel Mass has improved dramitically over the last 12 months, but I do feel that Raikkonen will beat him this year. Massa will probably make the better start to the season though, but once Kimi get used to the team and the way it works then his raw pace and natural talent should make him faster than Massa. If not then there could be big problems at Marenello
