It seems from THIS ARTICLE that the Russian who allowed TVR to go into liquidation has been allowed to buy the company back.

Surely that can't be good?

Does that involve not having to pay redundancies to the former employees... re hiring them under new management friendly contracts or relocating outside the EU....?

Sounds very dodgy indeed... but all very legal I'll bet... <no>

Well how about the little Dutch con that closed Sunderland Shipyards......

It went like this:-

Dutch company look for ailing shipyard with a fine reputation for building 1st class ships

Dutch company finds Sunderland shipyards (NESL)

Dutch company orders 18 car ferries and specify certain build criteria....including the on board generators.

NESL inform the Dutch company that the Generators they specified need to be upgraded to a more powerful model.

Dutch company says no

NESL Build the ships but Dutch company says they do not want them as the are below standard. Their main concern is the generators and the paintwork!

Dutch company cancels order

NESL goes bust, thousands lose their jobs

EU offers redundancy grants as long as the UK government promises not to build ships in Sunderland and be in competition with their far more important German and Dutch yards!

Unpaid for Ferries are auctioned off.

Ferries sell for a fraction of their value

and bought by.........

you've guessed it............

The Dutch company!

Who got the ferries at 1/3 of the cost they agreed to pay NESL

What a con....from our nice EU brethren.
