Alonso targeting three F1 titles "I want to win three world titles," Alonso told the Daily Mail. "To win one may mean you had the best car on the grid. To win two is a great achievement. "But to win three. Well, all the big names in F1, and all the drivers we remember, won three or more world titles," added the Spaniard, already the youngest two-time champion in history. After the way testing has went so far I think Alonso has a very good chance of that happening this season. And he points out that he left Renault for McLaren as he felt he had done all he could with Renault. |

I really think he is in a great position to do it this year. He is working hard at Macca to win with them and i think he will have a big shout this year. If he wins another title this year, when will he stop? 4,5,6,7....8? World championships? |

Wouldn't it be great to have the WDC decided by a single point amongst three or more drivers, with all the cars equally reliable and nobody pulling ahead during the season? It looks like this may happen. We might even have a battle between Massa KR, FA for P1, Fisi, Quick Nick, Butthole for P2, RB, Webbo, Kubica, Rosberg, DC for P3. All in all, an exciting season awaits. |

For Alonso to win a world title this year would be an amazing achievement - but he's an amazing driver, and I can conceive it happening. The thing is I just don't know who will win the WDC this year - it could be Alonso, Raikkonen, maybe even Massa or Fisi ... this is the first season in a long time where it's been so unpredictable. That said, I'm still sure that by the time we get to Melbourne the performance gap will have widened and it will be down to the same old two-horse race! |

This isnt true Jim Clark is reguarded as one of the greatest if not they greatest driver and he only won 2. I think Alonso will win atleast 3 i would say he will have 5 by the end of his career, we no he can deliver but can Mclaren give him a diescent car that is the main question. |

Anyone can luck a WDC crown.... Irvine almost did it.... Two is harder to deny the driver had something to do with it... Alonso is more than capable of 3 WDC titles even if he was to miss out this season to the rampant BMW's.... sorry got day dreaming there... what I mean is he is on track for at the very least another one WDC. |

Of course its to early to say but i wonder if he could pass 7 world titles, he had his first two earlier than anyone in f1 history. He has the skill and commintment to do it and with a bit of luck and a diescent car who knows! |

I think Alonso could well be a champion again this year, the mclaren is looking very good at the moment and is suggested to be the top team by many experts and insiders at the moment. If the team keep to this form when racing starts then he has a great chance, I think Kimi may fare better in qualifying as raw speed is his strength but over the races where points are handed out Alonso will fare better but we could get some great battles between the pair hopefully. |

I'm not sure he does have the commitment. He has been quoted as saying that he doesn't want to hang around in F1 long enough to win as many titles as Michael. No doubt that he has the talent given the car but are McLaren able to consistently, season on season, deliver him the car? Their recent past record would suggest not. |

I really, really hope not. I don't care who wins, as long as it's fair and it's close. |

Believe me, I really hope not, too. But experience has taught me that no matter how close winter testing is, the actual season is invariably a different story. Look at 2004 - it looked as though a number of teams could be in with a shout, but in the end it was Ferrari who dominated. 2006 is another example - during winter testing it looked like it could be a four-way scrap between Renault, Ferrari, McLaren and Honda, but once the first race came around it was clear that only the first two were going to be competitive. As for the title fight being a fair one: I think that is the most important thing of all. Last year was marred by way too much politicking and way too little racing - let's hope that if any FIA/steward intervention is necessary this season, it's all above board and doesn't impact too much on the actual racing. If F1 should learn anything from last season (and to some extent the season before it), it's that the sport and spectacle should be way, way above politics on the list of priorities. |

Sorry mate, there's only one thing F1 holds in truly high regard and that's money. |

Quite! But politics is about power, and power is mostly about money.... |
