Tony Purnell predicts big things for Hamilton

In the recent issue of F1 racing he says that Hamilton will be very impressive in 2007 and then for 2008 he says "In 2008 everyone else had better just get out the way"

He suggests that you should make a sizeable bet on Hamilton winning the 2008 championship.

Is purnell getting carried away or is Hamilton really that good?

He is definitely the most promising rookie we have had for some time beating and whipping everyone who has come before him in all the other series he has been in but it is a very big prediction to make.

I think Hamilton could well be a world champion but 2008 would be too soon especially as he will be alongside Alonso still, although it could get close between them if Hamilton is straight out of the blocks this season.

I hope he's right, to some degree. If Mc can build the car that can win, it's more likley that neither Ham or FA will win because they will probably split many races and lose to a team with a good car and a strong/weak driver line-up.

As I have said before, I will reserve judgement on Hamilton until I see him race in F1. To perform well in the junior formulae is one thing, but to cut it in Formula One is quite another - as Jan Magnussen among others will tell you. I don't think anyone is in a position to predict anything for Hamilton at the moment, simply because racing in F1 is a whole different kettle of fish to anything that a driver will have experienced before.
