Monaco for me is one of those circuits that really shouldn't provide good racing, but often does. I think it's because it's a fundamental test of driver skill - more so than any other track, because if your concentration lapses at any point during the two hours of the race you are as likely as not to intertwine your car and the surrounding Armco into something worthy of the Turner Prize.

On paper, Monaco looks very dull - the track is so narrow that overtaking is usually impossible, even disregarding the stupid, STUPID aero regulations we have today. But somehow the races always end up being fun to watch - better than a snorefest at Barcelona or Hockenheim any day.

The thing I have a problem with are the changes that were made for the 2003 race, they were completely unnecessary. Before that, I thought yes, Monaco was a big challenge.

I'm interested to see how the Abu Dhabi 'street circuit' turns out, because that could turn out to be a good track.

You are forgetting that Hermann Tilke is responsible for its design!

Great track, it is probably the only track when driver skill counts above his car. The challenge looks very difficult as well no lng straights to gather your thoughts just non stop tight and twisty corners for 78 laps. <bow>

I love Monaco, always have, always will. Even if, as some have said, that it's not challenging anymore, where else do you get F1 cars driving within centimetres of the armco at Beau Rivage at well over 240KPH, or belting through a tunnel and exiting downhill into a frightening braking zone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't reckon you'd catch any of us doing and getting away unscathed. If you love F1 then you've got to love that; it's the one place where you can literally see thier balls of steel!!!

That said, I'd rather be watching a JPS Lotus driven by senna, chased by a Tag driven by Prost (circa 86 - 87) doing it than a modern F1 by Alonso or Raikkonen. Now that was sweet.....

So what if the race can be a procession, we're talking about nearly 80 years of tradition here!!! :D

I think Monaco should remain on the calendar because we need as much unique circuits as possible on the calendar. Monza is all about speed, Belgium is about the old great circuits being blended with the new, Brazil and Turkey are anti-clockwise, Indy is two seperate circuits (fast and twisty) in one, Silverstone is an old-style airfield circuit and Monaco is a very tight, twisty circuit with no margain for error at all.

All these circuits give the championship a mix of flavour and should always remain on the calendar
