So Nando has joined a growing list of drivers who don't like the new section at the end of the Circuit de Catalunya. The chicane means that the Barcelona layout no longer ends with two fast right-hand sweepers.

To be honest I never liked the end of the Barcelona track. I wonder is this new end really that bad?

Yes, it is. It ruins the flowing nature of the track, and eliminates 2 of the best corners in F1. Is that really a good thing? It won't lead to more overtaking.

pedro syas he managed to get up close behind a car at the turn.

as murray used to say ". it's one thing cathing the car in front, it's another passing it"

never a truer word spoken

So another track has been ruined? Two long sweeping curves follwed by long straight and slow corner at the end = slipstreaming and overtaking. (not to mention spectactular viewing)

Chicane and medium speed corner = slow and dull.

Pathetic. They're supposed to be making overtaking possible, not folklore....

To be fair, something needed to be done about the track at Barcelona. Everyone was complaining after the 2006 Spanish GP was better received as a cure for insomnia than an afternoon's entertainment, so the track needed to be altered somewhat to make overtaking easier.

From what I've heard, though, these changes aren't going to help at all. I seem to remember Autosport or F1 Racing coming up with a fairly elaborate scheme to make the track more exciting; I'll see if I can dig out the article. I think it was something to do with redesigning the first section of the circuit, similar to what they did with the Nurburgring....
