There have been two female drivers that I am aware of, Giovana Amati she drove during the time of pre-qualyfying and never managed to do so. The other (Lombardi I think) actualy scored points or a point, dc202 can google it for you.

Believe what you want but i know this stuff even if you dont, she scored a half point when a race was stopped early.

Two points: female drivers - only a tiny proportion of drivers make it to F1, and only a tiny proportion of hopefuls are female, therefore the chances of any making it to F1 are slim at best. Having said that, there's no reason why they can't do the job. Desire Wilson was good enough, but never got the opportunity at the right time. Lella Lombardi was competent enough but never likely to set the world on fire. Ditto Amati. Ellen Lohr was talented but didn't have the necessary backing. Its only a matter of time.

Secondly; who is waiting in the wings? Bourdais is a virtual certainty for F1 next year. Piquet has the backing and pedigree and will probably make it next year. Whether that's with Renault is debatable. The other likely lad is Vettel - expect him to race a BMW next season, unless Heidfeld raises his game significantly.
