Don't worry, I know you didn't, it seems that whenever that kind of story comes up the F1 vs American racing debate is inevitable.

but yes, you don't fully understand whats goes on open wheel oval racing

it is the only true test of a drivers bravery, anywhere, anytime, any place

I am prepared to concede the first point, but this looked pretty brave to me .....

Gilles and Rene

Gilles and Rene

i've seen that clip before

great racing, some of the best I have even seen on a non-oval

problem is Penelope, that kind of racing happened once in 50 odd years of f1, its a very rare thing

that IRL clip i posted is what the series is always like, great close racing everytime, its superb

i think that Gilles and Arnoux clip is on Murray's Magic Moments video aswell

which someone bought me ages ago for Christmas

anyone else got it?

Yea that was a great finish, going back to one of your earlier posts saying that f1 drivers are scared i seem to remember a certain Montoya winning the cart championship in his debut year and dominating the indy 500 yet when he came to f1 he didnt have the skill to beat the best in the business over the season.

ah, you picked a bad one there

he didnt 'dominate' the 2000 Indy 500 AND the Champ Car championship that he won races more on road courses and NOT ovals

JPM arrived at Indy that year at Ganassi, a massive multi-million dollar organisation with teams in all kinds of different series

he had access to the best equipment, the best pit crew, the best of everything

Yes, he drove a great race

but, he was so nearly caught by a guy driving for a tiny team with a low budget and very very little resources

Buddy Lazier was the man and he pushed JPM VERY close!

it was NOT the dominent win that people say it was

a little clip hear of the amazing Lazier in his sub standard equipment chasing down JPM in the mighty Ganassi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1uJzgoQj8U

Well atleast i tried and was factually right ;-)

The Rene and Gilles battle is a helluva alot more exciting to watch than guys going round for like 10 minutes barely moving in comparsion to one another , the fact that they are breaking and really requiring alot of skill and incredible precision says it all for me.

Perhaps a driver exchange program. NASCAR can have Shumi and JPM for a season, and F1 gets Biffle and Jimmy Johnson.

Oh dear God. Would Bernie allow that? I mean, they might inject some sort of excitement into F1. <blink>

I don't think he'd care if it made him more money.

Nothing wrong with thinking Nascar is boring, stradlin. Just because you like it doesn't mean everyone has to.

correct, if you think NASCAR is boring, thats your opinion

i think F1 is like watching paint dry! thats my opinion!

Nascar is as boring as reading your constant moaning about F1. We know you don't like it...why not stick to your own forum instead of just filling this one with your anti-f1 opinions?

Why don't you chill out and be a bit more tolerant?.

Anyway, back to the original point before the nascar bashing set in, it would be great to see Schumi have a go at a TEST...everyones making it sound like he's going to race the Daytona 500....its just an offer of a test. And anyone who thinks racing a high speed superspeedway...or indeed a short track...is low on skill....well they're just plain mistaken..

you've made your mind up and thats fair enough but your missing out on some incredible racing. Tracks like Michigan and Indy and others pack as much excitement into one race as F1 gets in a whole season.

Fio makes a good point.

After watching many a boring F1 race on a Sunday morning I thanked god I had IRL or CC or both to look forward to that evening!

most top Nascar/Irl/CC drivers would freely admit that F1 is the pinnacle of world motorsport and thats ok....I've been hooked on F1 since I was a nipper and will always be a fan of Ferrari through thick and thin...and there was a hell of a lot of thin for many years LOL.

but that never precluded me from immersing myself in indycars and nascar back in the early nineties. Every form of motor sport has its own merits and CC, IRL and Nascar have many to be enjoyed, same as btcc, dtm, motogp etc.....each to his own

For an example...I've never really gotten rallying...but I wouldn't say to a rallying fan ...."driving through snow and mud on your own against a clock, thats shit and the drivers are crap" ...both because I don't believe it and because even if I did it wouldn't be right to say it like that.

now golf....thats another story.... :D
